Just curious
Must be quite old now then, legislation came in back in 1991.

He's nearly 11 so quite an old chap. I don't the ins and outs of where he came from, I've only known her about a year. My point was and still is that it's possible to have any breed of dog without problems providing you are a responsible dog owner.

No trainer in the world can undo what has been done to an problem dog. Depending on the circumstances it's more or less impossible. You can make them acceptable and put into a loving home, but they will always need supervision..Always. I sure as hell wouldn't have them around children either.
Do people really think michael Vicks surviving pits can be rehabed and placed into a home with kids? The ones they didnt destroy were sent to a ranch to live out their days. They will never be allowed to leave though. No training will ever get them back.

I know where one of Vicks rotties is. He is a happy stable dog that is great with other dogs, cats, and kids. He was rehabed by a trainer. Unless you have been working in rescue and rehab you cannot understand the ability dogs have to move on from horrid situtations. Some can't be saved, but many can. It is something I do EVERYDAY.

I would be interested to know what you base your opinions on and what experience you have in the matter? Training/rehabilitating dogs is an interest of mine (I don't claim to know it all, I am not qualified or a trainer of any kind, just an interested party) and would like to hear it please :-)

i don't belive that aggression is something that can be bread into a breed i think that the only way you can get an aggressive dog is if you or someone else makes it that way. who thought that one up, i mean seriously thats like saying if a baby is born and it perants are aggressive then the baby is going to be aggressive even if it is brought up in forster care, the fact is that some people want aggressive dogs (mainly chavs) for "protection" these peole have given bad reputations to some of our most loyal and trusted breeds such as gsds and bull terriers of all kinds, if you go to a breeder and they say anything like " this dog is gunna be a good protection dog" or "this dog is gunna be relaxed and gentle" then walk away, no breeder no matter how experianced can tell you what a puppy is gunna be likewhen its older, the way a puppy turnsout depends on how it has been brought up it isnot a breed thing it something we humans do then we try and desgise it by saying its in the breed and in doing so put thousands of inocent dogs lives at risk because there not allowed in certain areas so people have to get rid of them, we need to stop pretending and wake up its our fault and we need to take responsibility.
there now i'm done

Absolutely agree with you that dogs can be 'moved on'.
I am not a trainer/rehaber but have experience in this personally.
I have the greatest respect for anyone who does what you do - ie saving those dogs you can. Keep up the great work.
Has anyone any opinion on bringing back dog licensing ?

Its totally shocking that they can classify this bread at being dangerous. They really need to rethink what they are doing..

Any dog can be dangerous in the wrong hands, that's why it's so important NEVER to support BSL

Cesar Millan has managed to rehabilitate lots of dogs that would otherwise have been destroyed - especially the pitbulls types. One in particular could not be trusted at all around small animals and would instantly attack them. This was one of the few dogs that he could not rehabilitate so he took him back to live with him rather than him being destroyed.
I believe it can be done but not in all cases. The same as humans really.
