We have all seen many, many photos on this forum, but I have yet to see what to the Kennel club at least is calling a `good` shaped Sheperd.
I have to say I hate the look of the modern dog, and I am pleased that at least that shape has been to the greater extent kept in the show ring, it is no wonder that some dogs get bad hips
Curious as to others views

Sorry Stuart but there have always been extreme dogs of different types around, even in the 1920's there were issues with what was then term as 'Carp' back (roach)
You need to bear in mind the GSD is a mix of different regional varieties, some had prick ears some drooping ears, all were different sizes and shapes, coats to varied from long double coated, wire haired, smooth coated
Many of these regional varieties are still around

Hi Sarah they are supposed to be 65cm at the wither, which is higher than the back. There are some taller dogs around but again this as also been an issue for over 100 years.

i prefer the working line to have a more athletic look to them, rather than being square and chunky.
i do love a good showline male head though.
i took pics of my friends showline sheps today and i will post pics of them later.

Just one thing from what you said there Pam, I can see how a dog will look different when in a stance, but the nickname `Frog` that I saw came from the way the dog moved around the show ring, I have seen film of one of these dog , and the back legs simply never straightened, they were in a perminent bent fashion,..and this dog was a champian.
I think I saw in on you tube I will see if I can find it

HI Pam
|This show shep was much taller than that, But had more bend for want of a better word (you no me lol) to his rear legs. Having never seen a show shep in real time, the man said it was show lines, but i dont know enough about it to ask about lines etc, and if he did say I would of grinned and say "aw cool" and looked like i knew what the hell he was on about lmao

Have a look at this film, this is what I was talking about, this to me is extreme, and shouldnt be in my oppinion, the K.C. could change this over night
YouTube - German Shepherd half dog half frog
...and in this film a vet is there saying how bad it is for the dogs

I have seen that but the same dogs you can also see lack of muscle tone aswell.
Shape wise I prefer my Alfes type when he was alive, 3/4 German and a 1/4 English Germanic not English showline.
Or Storm when he was alive he was by a Dutch import from a bitch who was 3/4 German.
Their croup wasnt has steep nor was their angulation.
But even Zandie who has steep croup, extreme angulation, and his hocks slightly too long for me, he moves well as he has been exercised free running from 8 weeks old and can certainly catch rabbits and only just misses hares by a breath.
