I wouldnt never think of getting rid of a dog who didnt like strangers,.. or that has any other problems, when you take on rescue dogs, you never quite know what you are going to get, you take them on knowing that you are committed to the care of that dog no matter what problems it has.

As for shooting a dog, [even if said in jest] is very wrong, it has nothing to do with the neighbour, tell them not to come over,..as Beki said you learn to adjust,.. we were once keen Caravaners going out almost every weekend when we could, we made the choice to put the dogs first and gave up the caravan

I'd tell the neighbours to p*** off to be honest. Ignorant people who don't know what they are talking about. Its probably no consolation but the majority of my neighbours hate me too. I don't care lol My dogs like who I need them to like (and they love their mum!) and bugger to everyone else!

I shouldn't take it to heart but it does upset me that the majority of my neighbours think she is evil.

I'm moving in 4 days, I'm going to bribe my new neighbours with cake so they all like me.
The one neighbour that likes Sally (the butcher with the lovely lab) is worried that once Sally leaves everyones houses will get broken into!!

Good luck with your move Sarah, hurry up and get your connection up and running so you can let us know what your neighbours are like..hehe
Do you think you will be able to go visiting them with the dog?,..as well as the cakes.

Sounds like you need a new batch of neighbours anyway

Our 7 month old white bitch is the same even though we socialised her well.
She is a great obiedient family dog with close family at home, but does not like strangers. She will either bark or run away. Looks quite frightening. If the person sits down calmly and ignores her she will settle and take a treat from them eventually.
We would nt consider getting rid of her.
We ve managed to get her to stop barking at people on walks now by giving her a treat everytime a person walks close by and she doesnt bark. Been working wonders. Also been training her the word quiet with a treat when she stops barking.
Strange thing is she loves dogs and never barks at them. We ve had a few dogs round at the house and she loves playing with them!

I think I must be just a horrid grumpy old bag you know, but as soon as anyone shows even the tiniest dislike towards either of mine it makes me instantly hate them lol

i did, hugo was going to be PTS for biting, bit me 5 times in the first few months ,now after a lot of hard work,he is wonderful,ok slight exaggeration but to me he is basically i keep him safe, dont allow him to be put in a position where he would bite,he likes meeting people now but not too in his face sort of thing
