Don't know how they will enforce it personally. Also how far does it go, we have a GSDx! Also is this intended to be on top of normal insurance because we are covered for third party liabilty anyway.

Edited to say: Just had a look at my policy and we are covered for 3rd party liability to somone else or property up to £1 million.

My insurance covers 3rd party liability.

But what about my 91 year old neighbour and her little maltese? I have no idea if she has insurance but what I do know is that her dog is her life. What happens if she can't afford insurance? Will they take her dog away from her, dump it in a rescue and wait for someone to come and take her to another home?

What about my mums schizophrenic patient whose whole life is his JRT? He cannot afford insurance, will he be forced to put his dog in hiding? or will they take it away?

How will this actually prevent a dog attack? Will the dogs stop and say 'hmm if i attack someone, my premiums will go up. I better just go back home and chew a slipper'

Who is going to police this? The borough where i live just cut the only dog warden, are the police or the RSPCA going to do spot checks?

AARRRHHHHHH Im flippin' furious!!!!!!

yes i agree with you here, half the population of people that own dogs that carnt afford insurance will just get rid of the dog or hide it like u say possibly, but i think there will be a hell of alot homeless dogs about and all this because people who have these dogs train them to be nasty or dont socialize them enough and the poor dogs end up suffering, what i dont understand is why do these people take these dogs out if they no they ar vicious i say it is NOT the dogs fault its how there brought up end off, also how will breeders beable to afford to have so many dogs cos all the dogs will need to be insuraned sureley??this is my thoughts anywaysxx

they cant even enforce the laws already inplace, like leash laws, kids walking certain types of dogs under the age of 16,perhaps if they all got off their backsides and enforced laws already in place things would improve
have you noticed since the goverment started on folk to give up smoking they have looked for other ways to increase the revenue,4x4s were targeted now its dog owners,if they bring in this insurance it should be per household not per dog
i too have said that these prats drive round illegally,so of course they will be first in the queue to insure their out of control aggressive dog

In the BBC news this morning that the Government has done yet another u-turn and abandonded the insurance idea.

Why is it that pit bull ownership has been baned for years but they are still seen on the streets? I am not saying all pitbulls are bad but if its against the law to own them why hasn't it been enforced? This government is weak and pathetic and needs to go! Rant over.......

I have to agree with you, we have loads in our area and the police just ignore them. They won't do anything about it until the dog attacks either a person or another dog....what a fab piece of legislation that was!!

I'm always happy to rant with anyone over this issue....
