GSD vs Malinos

I always hear people saying catchy things like "Malinos = GSD on PCP" or "Malinos faster than a speeding shepherd".

Well I'd like to say, not in this house. Mal -Vinnie- VS GSD -Gunny-.

Gunny wins every time. Both dogs are working lines, about the same age, in good health. Gunny not only runs faster (by bike) but longer before getting tired. He is more unyeilding to a possiable "bad person" then the Mal that is TRAINED to protect. He has better focus, higher drive, and just as affectionate.

So I have to say, while I do love Vinnie very much, who needs a Mal when you can have a GSD.

From a police dog point of view they both have their pros and cons. Generally the GSDs have more presence when facing criminals and crowd control etc. But for taking out a fleeing criminal, often the mali hits harder and faster. The Malis are often in service longer too, not suffering the same old age problems as the GSDs.

Having said that, they are both excellent breeds for the job and although I handle a GSD at the moment, I'd have no problem walking the streets with either. In fact, we are finding an increasing number of GSD and Mali crosses coming into service, giving us the best of both breeds.

Malis do seem to have longer working life than the GSD, and yes MANY Mali x GSD's are on the market another fad ,and it's not just the working dogs it's happening with, I like both breeds, but the Mali does seem to be healthier.
Some KNPV lines of malis are a bit suspect as they are bred for performance, thus the odd dash of another breed can be added to the mix,
