Once ears have been tattooed dont put any cream or such on ears the ink has a special substance to it, nor try to wash the ear, when the tattoo is first done the puppy may shake its head a couple of times then within seconds its forgotton, within 3 to 4 days the tattoo can be readable.

mackico is on a distinguished road
Archie was tattooed by the breeders. He had all this green ink on his fur in his ear, but the breeders just told us to give it a wipe with a dry cloth every now and again, which we did but otherwise left it alone. Never had any problems with it. So in his ear he has IGS606, although some fur has grown through it so it's partially obscured.

Archie was microchipped at the same time as he was castrated. I can sometimes feel it beneath the skin in his neck if I go looking for it, but it doesn't bother him. Our younger two cats are also microchipped, no problems.

Speaking from experience, tattoos don't actually hurt that much. Rake your nails over the skin of your arm with medium pressure and that's about how painful it is. I've had worse scratches from the cats. They do sting a little afterwards, but it's tolerable. They also do go through that itching stage when all the scabs are falling off, but I can't say I ever saw Archie scratching at it.
