Tattooing

Been thinking quite a lot recently about getting both Boys Tattooed as well as Microchipped.
What are your thoughts on this?
My only concern is that it maybe painfull for the dog and wondered if they would need sedation?
Anyone had their dog tattoed? Was it worth it and what was it like for the dog?
I have lots of tattoes by choice but is it fair to put our woofers through this to help against theft/Loss?

Linda x

GypsyGSD is a jewel in the rough
gyps is tattooed it was done as a pup and needed for shutzand did no harm in any way but if the dog is stolen it is not uncommon for the ear to be cut of to avoid it being found or returned to owner xx

Thanks Pam
Mine are 16+18 months and I was thinking on the inside leg or is it the norm to have it done in the ear?

This would be a concern though as like you said they could cut the ear off to avoid detection
