Hi welcome to the forum,
I have a Turkish dog (my avatar is him as a pup), he is an Anatolian Karabash, sometimes called a Kangal. I previously had GSD's but left the breed because of all the health problems. My Karabash is now 13 years old and has been very healthy throughout his life.
I totally sympathise when you talk about Turkish people not understanding having your dog in the house - they have a totally different way of thinking about dogs. That is why you will find it hard to find health tested GSD's over there. Their dogs prove themselves health wise by working, that is why the Karabash is such a healthy breed - if they don't/won't work then they shoot them. It really is survival of the fittest and only the best/fittest dogs mate and produce puppies.
I find it really funny when I walk my dog past Turkish take aways - they all call their mates to come and see the Turkish dog, but they will not come any where near him!! They are terrified of him because they know what the dogs are like over there.
Some people from our breed club have moved over to Turkey and they are regarded by the locals as mad for having 'pet' dogs. They have also adopted a number of street dogs as it broke their hearts to see the dogs, it is costing them a fortune in vet bills!
What area of Turkey are you in?
Good luck with your search for a GSD.
Sue
