Thanks for this Stuart, shame they had to use a GSD in the article...not sure why they needed to have one in mid bark
I think pet passports are a good idea and I think it's great that you can move around Europe with your dog and not worry about 6months quarantine to come back. I do agree though that there should still be strict rules for animals coming in from potentionally high risk countries.

The only thing that worries me, is that the rabies jab doesnt always take first time,..as it stands now you have to have the jab,..and then a blood test a few weeks later to see if it has taken, it gives no mention of that here,..I dont know if the jab is now better, there is some indication in the artical that that might be the case.
As for the German Shepherd photo, yes that annoyed me to, it gives the wrong impression when it is not just dogs that bring in rabies,.. but I guess a photo of a cat or a fox wouldnt get the same effect

It is law here in Spain that all dogs and cats have a yearly rabies jab. I have never heard of it not taking first time and there are no blood samples taken after having it done.

Thanks for that Heather....I would have thought they would blood test to be sure but maybe it is very reliable?!
Stuart you're right a cat or a fox just wouldn't have the same impact, they always need to demonise dogs

Well I know for absolutly sure that it doesnt always take,.. there is a friend of ours who uses a camper van to travel Europe every year,.. and his travel plans were upset two years ago because of this very reason.
We als looked into it a few years back, as we were thinking of going to France, and they told us that the blood test a few weeks later was to see if the jab had taken,..so from that we assume it is more common than you may think
Unless this more modern Jab has been improved as is indicated in the artical, the last paragrah says that the current blood tests will be scraped

I had added another artical here, but then had to remove it, because when I looked more closely I saw that I had posted an old artical on quarantine, so it was not relevent
My apologies
