problem is there are too many idiots owning the wrong breeds who havent a clue, too many breeders whether registered dogs or unregistered breeding for profit not for the benefit of the breeds concerned. You cant blanket everyone with the same irrisponsibility, I was a teenage mum (18) when I had my first daughter not all teenage mums are irrisponsible.
There are two victims here the poor baby and the dog. I also feel sorry for all the responsible breeders and owners of this breed, my neighbour as 1 he is realy soft I quite often stroke him over the fence, my daughter also has two of these again both friendly.

tazman is on a distinguished road
it is so sad to hear again of another baby dying 12 months to the day of poor Elle, but what I would say to every one out there all dogs are dangerous and can turn at any time.either through neglect misuse or jealousy, no dog whatever breed should be left with children without a responsible adult,as u all know I have a staffy who is so soft, but I would never leave him for one minute alone with a child

GSDOWNER will become famous soon enough
purely my opinion, in 99.9% of cases its not the dog who is dangerous, its what the human in charge has allowed them to do and not taken the time to teach them what we expect in terms of behaviour from them. a lot of people are ignorant to the fact that a dog is a wild animal

I personally don’t think bringing back the licence will help, changing a piece of legislation is all good and well but how are they going to manage it 100%. I personally think that the laws should be changed that it is compulsory to attend obedience classes. In some European countries, it is compulsory that anyone who wants a dog over a certain size has to take an assessment regarding their canine knowledge and also attends classes. In Germany, thats any dog over 40cm high and 20 kg body weight , so thats any dog bigger than, say, a Border Collie. If you own a large dog your handling capabilities are reassessed on a regular basis.

I also think that the seller/breeder of the dog should also be responsible for making sure that the dogs they sell are going to suitable families and to make sure that home visits prior to the dog being sold to be made compulsory. A good breeder will fulfill these criteria a poor BYB will not. I personally find it interesting that the only health screening the KC insists on for its Breeder Scheme is a Hip Score!!!! What about heart, eyes, hemophilia?? etc., Where does temperament come into the equation?? That is what SchH training was created for, to assess temperament and ensure that only good SchH dogs were licensed as breed stock.

How many times have you said yes it's ok to stroke my dog he'll not bite or my dogs a big softy he's been socialised properly. How many children when your out come up to your dog and just start patting it or flapping there arms in front of its face. however if my dog was to bite in this situation whose to blame? me for having a dangerous and out of control dog or the person who doesn't know how to behave around dogs

Given the hysterical nature of the press and public opinion we are currently experiencing, I am extremely concerned that within ten years many different breeds will be permanently banned. It is our job as owners and trainers to educate the general public regarding dogs and not the job of the press, MP's or any other band wagon jumper regarding so called dangerous dogs.

ITS THE OWNER .................NOT THE DOG!!

At least the Government are being sensible this time and not calling for a ban on the breed.

As for the bitch concerned at least she is at peace now and not being tormented and living in cruel conditions caused by this family.
