Definate NO.
Its the owners fault for not keeping them under proper control or providing proper training.
Only this morning I was walking Sienna along the street and across the road a man had 4 JR s on a lead that went absolutely spare at Sienna, very aggressive behavior. He seemed to have trouble controlling them all. God knows what would have happened if they broke loose, tried to do some serious damage I expect. A man was outside his house next to us and said "bloody little things, worse than big dogs , they keep attacking my neighbours GS"

It always saddens me when you read of any dog attacks but it angers me when the media only ever report large breed attacks which scares people.
I am all for deed not breed and like everyone else I feel the wrong dog in the wrong hands is a recipe for disaster whatever the size of the dog.
I've had more issues with small dogs that any others, I find people with large breeds are much more aware of their dogs and train accordingly, although sadly there is always the minority that don't and these are the ones that make the headlines.
I feel for any Rottie owner atm cos they must find being out and about with their dogs a nightmare, I can only imagine the sneers and nasty comments they will get but it's people's ignorance!
Oh so I voted no....lol

I have voted no and agree with everyone elses comments its the owner at fault not the dog. I was bitten the other day by the cutest little terrier fluff ball. It was my fault really, it was tied up outside the shop and I felt sorry for it looking so forlorn so spoke to it and tried to fuss it. It made a real mess of my finger but hey ho you live and learn. Problem is what if a small child had tried to fuss it, it really was the cutest looking little fluff ball.
I cant see any of the governments proposals working because the idiot owners wont get a licence etc.
My suggestion would be to only allow licensed breeding, no puppy sales without licensing/registration of ownership etc. It would still not be perfect but might at least reduce the number of initial licenses to the breeders and therefore make it more possible to police.

Its a big no from me.
Diesel walks sometimes with one of the biggest rotties I have ever seen and he is such a wimp!!! Loves everything and everyone. He is sooo scared of Diesel ...... my dog can be a bit of a bully at times!
I dont think the govt proposals will work - the whole system of breeding, licences and ownership needs looking at from scratch.
There was a radio interview yesterday and a guy from the RSPCA was on and he did not do anything for the organisation at all made them soound like a right bunch of idiots - there was only one comment I agreed with him on and that was
"it is a priviledge to own a dog not a right"
I wish there was a way to enforce that!

I cant remember what all the details are that have been proposed for the licencing system, but I know its a lot more than just getting a licence,..the bits I remember, were that every owner has to pass a written test,. with a pass mark of 60% [?], it covers questions on general dog ownership and health matters.
The licence has a one off payment of I think £40, with reducions for volunteering to do the test before the deadline of it becomeing law.
There are lot of details that I just cant remember,..I must try and find it for us
I know that licences have been tried before and fail badly, but I think this one at least goes some way to addressing the problem,.. the licence has to be carried and must be shown to anyone in authority that asked for it, the dog will be removed from those who fail to do so
I think the most important thing that this proposal does for us as owners, is to show the public that responcible owners can take the test and show proof of doing the test,.. where as irrisponcible owners would hopfully be the ones who take the blame for dangerous dogs,..it may well divivide the dog community into two sections, with the general public praising the `testers`,..and turning the bad reputation to those who dont take the test
I am for it anyway, at the moment we all have a bad preputation with many of the public..so in order to try and do something about that I will take the test as soon as I am able to do so

No!
It's the owners who should be banned, not the breed! There are 4 rotties that go to the same park as me. Three are gorgeous, friendly dogs (well, 2 dogs & a bitch, actually!) whose owner is careful with them & has them under control. The 4th is an unpredictable boy whose owner is a nasty bit of stuff & couldn't give a rat's arse what happens to his own or any other dog! We avoid that one like the plague! But it isn't the dog - he's probably just not sure of acceptable boundaries - it's the man who owns him!

Here is a link to the proposals,.. this link is a bit long winded, but if you can get towards the bottom without falling asleep it gets to the bit that would most interest us
It is called the D.O.T ... Dog Ownership Suitibility Test

There are 8 in my area and there are only 2 I trust, but again this is down to the idiots who own them, in my area along with these the other problem dogs are small breeds, Westies, Shit tzus, Jack Russell type mongrels and Staffie crosses, a mile away the problem is with Pit Bulls but again it is the people who own them in this case drug dealers that have caused the dogs to be like they are. A few years ago in my area it was Am Bulldogs.
My neighbours Rottie is a big softie and I regular stroke him over the fence, my daughters Rottie is also a softie although dog aggressive to certain other types as he has been attacked by these types he dislikes. There is a rescue Rottie that is in Poly's class at dog club, she is adorable and if I kneel down will lay down beside me for a tummy rub.
Again sort the people out, I dont think brining out licences will resolve this as when they were previously out nobody enforced them, even now very few Police no the law regarding dogs.
