Welcome to the forum James

The answer to your question is a big `No`.

There are many reasons for this, but the main one is because its not the dog who is to blame,.. Rottweilers as a breed are not to blame, the blame rests mainly with the owner and the lack of training that many owners provide.

I personaly dont like Rotties, but to bann them is simply daft, and wouldnt go anywhere towards sorting the problem,.. and if we did bann them,.. what then kill them all, pet dogs, show dogs, dogs worth hundreds of pounds, there would be more uproar in that than there is no over single gog attacks.

......... and then where do we go,.. a little girl was mauled yesterday, her picture in our papers,..this was done by a Akita,.. do we also bann those?,..and so on and so on.

Scotland I think is about to bring out a liecence system, where the owner has to pass a test in order to own a dog, a liecence that needs to be renewed and is able to be shown, just like a car liecence,.[ I think I have this right ],..this is the way to go,.. not banning

I strongly believe that there is no such thing as a dangerous breed. It is us humans that make dogs the way they are. Pit bulls are supposed to be a banned breed, all that it has done is made them more desirable to the gang culture! Any dog has the potential to seriously maim, even a terrier! I don't know what the solution is, I personally don't think licensing will work, as you have responsible owners who will pay and the irresponsible ones won't, just like TV licensing, car tax etc!

NO NO NO

I have had rotties for nearly 40 years and each and everyone has been brought up with my children and grandchildren.

What we need to do is hit some of the so called bloody owners with hefty fines and/or a jail sentence for allowing the dogs to get so dangerously out of control.

At the moment the dogs are PTS and the sodding owners just go out and get another one.

All dogs in the wrong hands are capable of killing or seriously maiming people are you suggesting we kill them all.

I'm another no!

Licensing will make no difference to the problem as those who own dangerous dogs of any breed is very unlikely to take notice and abid by the law, who abids by the DDA? We may do our dogs aren't dangerous, and those who own dogs who's behaviour can be of concerns, ensure that while they are training this behaviour out, measure are put in place to protect other dogs/people from harm, kept leaded and even muzzeled if need!

Insurance making it a legal requirement is useless, how many uisured drivers are there on our roads? All that will happen, many responsible owners will end up PTS as they can't afford the insurance... As the insurance companies won't be doing us any favours but welch every penny possible out of us!

And guess what, that dog who did the deed, is very unlikely to be one of the ones insured!

I must admit there are very good points here, Does anyone have any suggestions that might work.

My auntie has always had rottweilers and they have always been great with all of us. They are a lovely breed and very misunderstood. I think the problem is that they are used as guard dogs etc and they have got a bad reputation I would pick a rottie over a small breed any day!
