Cats!

Who has 'em?

More to the point, who has cats them AND loves them at the same time? I love mine, but my God, they drive me up the wall sometimes.

Last night Jack brought in a gigantic rat.

Unfortnately, Jack never quite does things right, so the rat was still alive and virtually uninjured. He then proceeded to drop it on my parents' bedroom floor. And as it was still alive, it went racing around hiding under the dresser and in the closet and under the clothes while Jack chased it around.

This went on for an hour before my father came and got me up from my wonderous, most delicious sleep. I, somewhat reluctantly might I add, got up and put on my rat-catching gloves, which are actually just these really old ski gloves from about the 60s, and spent the next half hour chasing the rat around the house before I finally managed to capture it. Dad wanted me to drown it, but I haven't the heart and anyway, the gloves aren't waterproof, so I let it go outside.

Jack, admittedly, was somewhat helpful in the catching of this monster animal. He let me know where the rat was, most of the time.

Milo was useless and slept through the entire episode.

Erol was worse than useless, and spent most of the time getting in the way.

Last Tuesday Jack killed and dismembered TWO birds on my bedroom floor, all in the same night. I got up and vacuumed twice. Milo regularly (as in 1-5 times a week) regurgitates on the carpet, as he gets these terrible hairballs. Erol is just a pain in the bum, and comes into my room at night, snuggles right up close, starts doing that clawing thing cats do and then proceeds to lick and nibble at my face and neck until I can be bothered pushing him away. He's also a worse drooler than Archie, and I frequently have to wash my sheets, pyjamas and pillowcases because he's left these awful wetpatches on them while doing his licking mt faceneckhairarm business. He also eats pot plants, regardless of whether they're toxic or not.

And yet, I still adore these sodding things?

I think I might be sleep deprived. At least Archie sleeps all night and only needs to be got out of bed at 8AM.

This is the Jack:

The tabby is Milo, our elderly mog, and the grey-and-white is Erol, the monster:
Erol's as big as Milo, nearly, and still growing. This photo is a month out-of-date!

I've never had a cat, but my sister did. He was a REALLY beautiful male tabby & white - I mean GORGEOUS! And he knew it. My sister didn't want to get him castrated so she said " I'll train him not to scent mark in the home!"

Yeah, right!

When he was about 12 months old my sister bought a really expensive dress for a party at the weekend, and she left it hanging on the front of her wardrobe door. Come saturday evening off she went to get dressed up and found that her dress stunk of cat pee! Poor Dillon was down the vets the next week............

But he used to bring home all sorts of things ...... mice/rats/frogs/birds/grasshoppers, even a kitten once! (she had to take that back to its mum pronto!) All would be various stages of alive. *ugh*

I couldn't have a cat even if I wanted one - Dempsey & Pneuma absolutely detest cats - I hate to think what would happen if either of them ever caught one.

I've got 3 cats, 2 are in their teens and one is about 4, since we have moved we have a house with much more land than the old place but the cats don't seem to go out as much so they don't bring "presents" home any more, we did have a mouse in the kitchen the other day and they all just sat there watching it

Not the same as having a dog but I think they are just as loyal, especially around feeding time and when we get a fire going, strange that

Regards

Ian

I use to have a cat called Harry who was from the Cats Protection in Bristol, but now I just help other cat owners to find their cats.
