just wondering what pet insurance people have and do they find them of good service and reliable,or have had problems.so many to choose from and various prices for the same cover.but noticed lots of them have a 12 month limit on illness payout unless you pay for premium or life long cover, and if you have an older dog thenyour very limited .

Hi,
After lots of looking we were either going to go with Sainsburys or Petplan.
We got our boy chipped recently and with it came 1 month free Petplan insurrance. Towards the end of the free month they sent me a letter and rang me to see if we would like to extend the cover.
They seemed very professional on the phone (45 minute call they went through each policy in detail) I got to speak to an under writer directly when I had a query. So we decided to go with their premium life cover. I told them I had done some research and was thinking of Sainsburys. The guy only charged me for 11 months and also gave me a 10% discount ontop.
I know they are more pricey than most other insurrures but for the sake of no problems with payouts and a great relationship between your vet and the insurrer it's probably worth it.

We've got no pet insurance, and it was a bad idea.
I just wasn't expecting $900+ vet bills.

I use Animal Friends Insurance, they are an ethical insurance company and donate a good proportion of their profits to help animal charities around the world.
I only have "Accident" insurance, so with common illnesses I am not insured. However, if my dog has to have treatment for a road accident, a dog fight, a burn or some other trauma, I am covered.
I know it is a gamble, but that is how I regard all insurance really.
I costs me just £4 per month and that in my circumstances is affordable, I could not manage the high premiums that I have been quoted for full cover.
I try to run a saving account for Ted just incase.

Just took our baby to the vets this weekend, so far its cost me £800. He is insured with Petplan. Will let you know how I get on claiming money back, the vets have the form and are dealing with it for me, they are sending it off tomorrow once he has been checked over. The vet said that if I didnt have the money she could contact them and ask if they would pay the vet directly so I just paid the £90 excess which thinking about it now is really good. At the time though I just wanted my baby taken care of so paid it. The vet said I wont have any problems claiming the money back though and it will only take a few days, will let you know.

When I was in England we had Pet Plan. They were fantastic. Ella-Bella's thyroid condition was covered and her ongoing treatment. The sum insured was fully re-instated at each renewal. I think they were glad when I left the country......

Sorry,
There are two sections on the forum, one for you and one for the vet. So all you do is fill in the first part then hand it to the vet, they then fill the rest in and add costs etc, they then send directly to Petplan.
All you fill in is name, address, dogs name, policy number, do you want paying directly or do you want the money to goto the vet.
Zak is covered on there 6k per year lifetime policy, was quoted £36 but then they knocked it down to £31 per month.
