|I use a Gentle Leader on both my dogs and its a godsend!! I can walk both together with complete confidence. Th eGL is similar to the Halti but simpler so the dog doesnt feel so enclosed by it. My collie hates the Halti but is happy with the GL.

I don't use a halti at the moment but I am thinking of putting our springer x collie because when we walk his nose takes over sometimes!

My parents did use one on her Akita who hated it and also discoved how to slip it off They did use the little link between the halti and the collar so no damage was done.

I'm a big fan of the Gentle Leader. Roo is currently in 'training' on one and has come on in leaps and bounds!

I also do not use them for walks for at least 4 days, all depends on the dog and how they respond to first fitting, but the general rule is to allow them a chance to get used to them before attempting a walk. Lots of distraction and fun games to stop them thinking about it. I also find it very important to ensure they are treated/rewarded at the time of every fitting whilst getting used to it, this promotes good association.

I'm not a fan of the Halti at all, all the dogs I have seen with these on are not fitted correctly and the dogs eyes are squashed because of poor fitting.

I'm right with you on the GLs!! They are brilliant with my two as I dont need strength to keep them back, the GL gives me full control without a battle of wills. Like you I used loads of treats and games when introducing and Tess will sit like an angel and keep still while I slip the GL on!! Pretty good for a seven month old!!

Oh yes............

I've tried alsorts with Sheba, but as you all know they have minds of their own and are easily distracted (or maybe thats just Sheebs).

I seriously didn't think it would work, but she walks perfectly on it......apart from when she tries to take it off by brushing against your legs as you are walking.......
