Heather has a spectacular aura about
It was me who said there's one at a petrol station- but then that's in Spain, not UK.

I've never used it as I don't bath Kira and I doubt if I'll bath Loba either.
My little dog Benji has very long hair- he's never been to the groomers- I bath him myself and *runs for cover here* I use normal people shampoo and Pantene conditioner
I've been told that I shouldn't do this as dogs have different ph than us but i've been doing this for at least 6 years and Benji has never had any skin problems and has lovely silky hair

I have also learned something new off Becki while reading this thread, Not to say is there is no right and wrong way of cleaning/maintaining your dog.

21st century people, Simpler, more efficiant,Easy accessible, more convienent ways for some people.....Times change thats all i can say and tbh i personally would use one of these grooming company's if one opened near me.

I'm just back from a group dog walk where a GSD has required vet treatment following a trip to the 'groomers' - tiny pin pricks (scabs) all over it from some tool they've used. The dog has sensitive skin. My advice to Storm's owner - groom your own dog, don't take it to that groomer ever again!

I know some of the more high maintenance breeds need proper grooming / stripping for their coats, but I cannot ever see an occasion when I'd use one on either of mine. I brush them regularly and hose them, they go in streams.. so groomers are unnecessary for me.

Aww poor bubba, very poor example of that groomer then!!
I wouldn't use a groomer as don't see the need for Bonnie, her nails are trim with street walking Nd she is brushed often...she does seem to enjoy it a bit more with help from the lovely beki (cheers mate) but like you say there are breeds who need them! My bruv in law has a poodle, so she needs her hair cut often. I love to see her fresh from the groomers..she looks so pretty they do such a great job

Anni, a very good example of why there needs to be tight regulations on grooming, currently there are none!!!! Which is totally shocking!!!

I have 4 customers that come to me who have been to other salons where they have been cut or burnt or roughly treated u cant stroke them when they get back and this deeply saddens me as it is sooo in necessary and why one of the big things ATM is to force salons to have CCTV put in so owners can see exactly how they are treated, something i am saving up for!

Dempsey wants to report this topic to the RSPCA for cruelty.

He says..........
"Dog baths are an unnecessary and cruel, invention by humans for making us dogs 'pretty' and 'sweet smelling'. Ugh! I spend hours, even days getting the right smell & dirt level in my coat and my human then washes it all out! Come on, GSDs (and others on this forum) band together and destroy this new torture! Together we stink, devided we smell sweet!"

We have more than one!

First, there's the ocean just outside the front door. Unfortunately, it leaves the dogs sandy, but as their coats dry all the sand falls out again and they're as clean as anything!

And if the ocean doesn't float your boat, it's barely a hundred yards to get to the stream, which works just as well. Or, of course, there is the river in the other direction. A bit more of a walk, but it's good and deep, and the dogs can go right in over their heads.

...

You can tell Archie has never been professionally groomed in his life.

There have only been about five actual bathtimes over three years -- three of those bathtimes in a 3'x3' shower cubicle with me inside too. If the dog gets water in his ears or lungs, it happens. Though because he goes into the surf on the beach every other day, sometimes quite deep and in rough water, I tend not to worry much. He's more likely to get water in bad places while he's out in the water than he is in my tub -- I tend to leave his head dry during bathtime anyway.
