Urgent please please help
GOT THIS E-MAIL TODAY FROM A FRIEND WHO RUNS A RESCUE IN CRETE
PLEASE DONATE IF YOU ARE ABLE.
PAWS Crete
Last Thursday we picked up an emaciated German Shepherd who we called Casey. She was wandering among traffic at a busy junction at Agios NIkolaos. Her legs were buckling under her and she was totally exhausted and very afraid.
She has obviously had one hell of a life on a short chain - looks like she was a breeding machine.
Her teeth are a mess and so were her nails which have now been clipped. Her front left foot is turned out (pointing to 9 o'clock) and her back legs are weak. The vet said she has some degree of displacia but the main problem was weakness from lack of food and water so we will know more about that when she has gained some weight - she is 20 kilos under weight now.
The vet treated her skin problems which will soon allow her hair to grow back.
She has obviously been sleeping on the ground and has sores all over - not Leishmania which she thankfully tested negative for.
Apart from that she is a beautiful gentle girl (with people and other dogs) and she clearly had no pleasant human contact before. She just looked at us confused when we stroked her and it was really difficult getting her into the car but now she loves the car and keeps nudging us for strokes.
We are feeding her puppy food and she gets calcium and a multivitamin supplement daily.
She drinks and pees a lot but she was severely dehydrated so we will see if that continues once she is completely hydrated again.

Would glucosamine be good for her joints? If so, do you know how much would be right for her? She weighs 25 kilos but the vet said she should be 45 kilos.
Talk soon
Best wishes
Joan
