Is it possible for you to contact the Autism society and ask if you could get a proper service dog.

I dont know a lot about this subject, but I am sure that a dog that is trained to know the right signs, and requirements would be a better bet.

I am not saying that a German Shepherd could not do the same, but I think that if you went down this road, you would want a pup, or at least a young dog, that would grow up with your son and learn the signs.

I do think if I was you, I would talk in depth with the right people,...[ unless of course you already have ]

I have a GSD that has worked with people who have Autism and behavioural difficulties - the dog will need to be socialised around people who have these conditions from a young age so it is not reactive to any unusual behaviour - it would be best if you got a puppy but you need to be careful what lines the pup is from it needs to be from a long line of mentally stable GSDs
