Roxy - Collie X Beagle

Roxy is my Mum's neighbours dog.

I have had a text from her tonight asking if I knew of a good home Roxy could go to, she is about 8-9 months old I think and is a real stunner.

At the moment, I am doing my best to convince them to keep her but just in case, if anybody thinks they can take her on please let me know.

They want to rehome Roxy because she is so destructive when left alone, I have advised the following:
-Change her food (could be preservatives making her hyper - long shot but worth a try)
- Don't give her any fuss when they come home or come downstairs until she is settled.
- Don't give her treats or fuss without making her work for it, ie, sit, stay etc.
- Don't let her upstairs or on the settees etc (I dont think they do this currently)
- Be consistant! They have two girls, 15 and 10, so all of them must work together and be consistant with rules.
- Get her used to a crate again for her own safety and to save on repair bills (they are leaving her in the garden while out at the moment but she sleeps inside on a night so they are actively showing her something has changed IMO)
- Use a keyword when leaving, we tell Blitz 'bedtime' everytime we leave the room, be it for a shower, to run up and grab something, to go to sleep or to go out for work so all things are the same and he doesn't learn to expect us back after a certain time.
- Take away her favourite toy and only give her it when you leave.

If anyone has any further advice please let me know so I can pass it on, alternatively, if you'd like to consider offering Roxy a home with a bit of understanding and patience please let me know. She is really lovely natured pretty dog, I can only find pics from her being tiny at the moment but could get some at request. She is spayed, chipped and vacinated up to date.

Cheers
Lucy xx

Personally I think she will regret it if she does but this has been a long time coming, I am just glad she has contacted me so I was able to give her some advice, I would have felt rude offering it without being prompted.
Fingers crossed it works for her xx

I hope they take your advice Lucy and try to work this out, seems such a shame to give up on a dog so young.

Do they give her enough exercise? With the Collie in her, she's probably under stimulated....how long she is left for?

My parents have a beagle and they go through a stage of being little shitbags between 9 months to about 2 years old. You see lots of beagles being chucked into rescues at that age because they are such hard work. Our one was destructive and growly, and wouldn't back down if he'd done something silly like pinching a tea towel. The only way you can get through it is by being very consistent and a lot of training. I really recommend crate training too.
