Cleo is a 5 year old German Shepherd Dog who originally came to Freshfields as her owners were having a baby and they decided they no longer wanted her. She was timid and unsettled when she first arrived but soon became a lovely playful dog.
Cleo was rehomed for a few weeks but – much to her new owners disappointment – she had to be returned as the landlord had a change of heart and decided that he would no longer allow pets.
Cleo was rehomed again but was sadly returned. We were under the impression that everything was going well but were then told that Cleo had bitten; her owners admitted that this was not always Cleo’s fault. Cleo had never had a problem with people in her house; it seemed to be because Cleo was being protective of her owners while out on a walk. We have never had any problems with Cleo at the rescue.
Cleo is gentle, loving and playful. Cleo is what we would describe as a typical German Shepherd. She is loyal and protective of those she loves. Cleo is a wonderful dog and truly deserves a loving home. A new owner would have no problems if they were sensible. She would need locking away in a separate room from any visitors and keeping on the lead. Cleo isn’t very good with other dogs, but again this is manageable. Staff will always help with behavioural advice to try and help a dog overcome a problem.
To us Cleo is a gentle giant but a real character. She loves affection from you and will often show off by being able to give both paws to you.
If you like German Shepherd dogs and think your home could accommodate Cleo, please ask about her. You will have a faithful friend for life.
Cleo can be slightly wary of strangers, particularly men, but can get to know people if introduced properly. Cleo is also not very good with other dogs. Both of these problems are easily managed with a sensible owner and our help.
Cleo is like many German Shepard dogs- they feel they must protect. With understanding and patience there is no reason this should stand in the way of Cleo finding her perfect home. She needs an adult only home with someone who has experience of this breed. We also need a person who will listen to kennel staffs’ advice. Cleo needs to get to know her new family slowly so you must have time for this. Cleo really does have so much to offer and will make an incredibly loyal friend for life.
