You guys have been brilliant in so many ways helping out with the rescues, but I was wondering if anyone can help out again.
we want to do things properly and up to now we have been able to home check most of our new owners!!
Its not us being fussy, all rescues do it as standard and we want to do the same with every potential new owner, now there is only 4 of us and this is where you guys come in.....
we have re-homed dogs up and down the country and it is not viable for us to check every home, but it is such a waste when there is a perfect owner waiting for a dog but we cant pass the animal on because we can't do the check... can any of you volunteer to do a home check for us if a potential home is found in your area, PLEASE!
We would tell the person in advance who you were and that you where coming and give a list of the criteria the new owner wwould need to fulfill.
for example;
1. Have you owned a dog before? If so, what breed? How long ago was this?
2. What size, age, type, sex, breed of dog are you looking for? (You might be fairly vague eg a small dog or very specific eg a long coat border colllie bitch who is outgoing and sociable, no more than 2 years.)
3. Who lives at the home where the animal will live? (Humans and pets!) Are any children are under 10? Does anyone at home have an allergy?
4. If you already have a dog, please describe at and its attitude, generally, towards other dogs. Are your dog’s vaccinations up to date?
5. What sort of accommodation do you have eg house, flat etc? Is it rented or owned? (A letter of consent from your landlord will be needed.)
6. Please describe your garden and its fencing.
7. How long would your dog be left at home alone on average and why is this eg work, school run, etc.
8. How much time would you be able to devote to walking, training and playing with your dog on an average daily basis?
9. Are you planning any major changes within two months (changing job, moving house, holidays etc?)
I have done this for the RSPCA for many years, its worthwhile and you know you,ve done the right thing by the person and the animal.Any findings are reported back and one of us will let the person know, Not many people are turned down, usually , if anything, its requesting a garden is made more secure.
so please can anyone help???
I am looking for a homecheck done is Morecombe, Lancashire, and one in Stoke
