Xena ? 8-10 year old female German Shepherd Dog

Xena is an 8-10 year old German Shepherd girl who is currently in foster care in Macclesfield, Cheshire. She has sadly come from a violent household. After a serious incident Xena’s owner disappeared and left her behind, she was alone in the property but was being fed by the victim’s daughter. More importantly Xena has been suffering with an untreated anal problem since before Christmas; our vet diagnosed it as Anal Furunculosis.

The owner knew she was in pain but instead of seeking help gave her antibiotics meant for humans. She has been in a lot of pain whereby her anal area, tummy and internal anal tube has been red raw and sore, making toileting very painful. It also meant she was pulling at her fur a lot due to the discomfort and crying a lot when toileting, clearly struggling. The vets have cleaned, trimmed and treated the area; she is on a 3 month course of treatment along with anti-biotics which will clear the infection.

It is an auto immune condition whereby the body fights it’s own tissue. We have to admit the treatment is expensive but she’s worth it and we hope that it will not be a recurring problem for the owner, the chances are it won’t be but any new owner will have to be aware of possible future vet bills. We really do hope this doesn’t put anyone of this beautiful girl!

Xena has been microchipped, wormed, flead, started vaccinations, but she can’t be spayed yet as she is in season. We’ve been told that she was originally from a rescue after being used for breeding, however she was never spayed. She will only be spayed if the vets say so, otherwise it wouldn’t be fair to put her through an operation after all she’s been through.

Xena is an absolute darling; she is so friendly and has a beautiful nature. We believe she is good with dogs but not 100% certain yet; she is good with children but chases cats. She loves being fussed and adores her treats.

We are looking for someone who has experience of the breed or at least rescue dogs, she’d suit anyone really, perhaps your retired, work from home or are a mature family. She loves attention! She has the most beautiful coat and such a pretty face, the poor girl has really been through the mill and deserves so much out of life now, are you that person to make her happy for the rest of her years?
