Looking For A Froever Home

Hi Everybody!!

With Great Sorrow and Regret I am having to re-home my beautiful boy Jake

He is 13 months old and an absolute SHINING example of the breed. We have had him from 8 weeks old, at that time we were renting a nice big house with a lovely sized garden and were given assurances we could be there long term and have the option of buying after a few years ..... If only we had that in writing! 8 months after getting jake we were given a months notice to leave... which left us with very few options of where we could rent due to owning a large dog. We ended up having to sign upto a 12 month deal on a small terraced property as it was the only thing we could find at such short notice.

Both me and my partner work full-time, which means he is confined to a small kitchen for the good part of 8 hours a day ( In the old house he could be left in the garden or had a bigger kitchen and hallway to stay in). We also have our first child on the way and with my GF becoming larger with the pregnany she finds it very frustrating and quite scarey when he is charging around and jumping up on her.

I have ran through this in my head over and over but i believe if we kept him it would be for my own selfish reasons, and unfair on Jake, as it isnt the great life for him that i wanted to give him and that he deserves.

He is a fantastic loving and loyal dog, with a great sense of fun and humour. A real cheeky chappie. He is well socialized and can play with all kinds of other dogs. He is fine with slightly older children (5+) but we havent had the opportunity to try him around small baby's yet. Also fine with our small cat. He is VERY intelligent but can tend to use it to his advantage lol.

He loves to play out in the garden but is just as happy inside aslong as he is with you.

He is fully house trained but still working on the lead, which is coming along slowly but surely.... Remember he is still a pup. he has also been working on his jumping up people which i have noticed a huge improvement but does tend to have the occasional tantrum, but again he is still a pup and they are becoming less frequent but i am really nit picking and these are only minor puppy issues.

I am looking for somebody that will ideally have experience with GSD's, with there own property and a good size garden. Other dogs are fine and he would actually benefit from living with them. I would also like somebody in the household that doesn't work full-time so he isnt alone all day in the weekdays. Finally somebody that can love and adore him like we do.

For any questions or more pictures please PM Me. Thanks for looking!

Im quite surprised that ur deciding to rehome ur dog knowing fully well ur wife is pregnant and will be at home after the birth for quite some time due to motherhood is there not anyway u can rethink ur decision of what i consider to be unvalid reasons for rehoming him we all have busy life styles and do our upmost best for are beloved dogs as long as they have love, food, water, and walks and stimulation u cant go wrong.
I get fed up with dogs being rehomed because they feel they have become to much of a burden for there life style

I do agree with Charlie, it does often seem a very easy option to get rid of the dog, if you were to think of how the dog will feel after you remove him, you may understand, the dog will wonder whats happening, he will feel rejected, lonely, and confused, and for such a loyal breed as the Shepherd it does seem such a shame

... but if he is to go, and you have no option,.. then please, as well as Sue`s excellent suggestion of the Police,.. please think about a GS rescue center, they will at least look for the right home for him, they will check out the new owners and should also follow up any adoption,.. please dont just give him `free to a good home`

He isnt a Burden whatsoever, he is fantastic in the house and im sure u can tell from the original post it is a heart breaking decision.......... I just dont think that its fair on him being cooped up in a small house with only a tiny garden to play in.

The baby isn't due untill August so we will still both be working full-time up untill then.

All i want is for him to have the best life and to be happy but right now i just see this depressed look on his face, like he is just fed up in the house and i dont think its fair.

Why Not keep him, get a dog walker to come in during the day, your house is small, but if your dog is stimulated, fed and loved you could live inn a cow shed, as all they do indoors is eat and sleep...If he is exercised stimulated and loved the size of house is irrelevant really, the house would just be a place to rest.

Im a grown man and i am crying on average 3 times a day since coming to the decision.... Its without doubt the hardest decision i have ever made... and believe me ive had to make a few in my lifetime. the main thing that upsets me is not me missing him, but what Jake will be feeling about never seeing us again and thinking its something he has done which really hurts.

I want to keep him i really do but with the house and my partners fears about having to look after baby and dog and make sure baby is safe with dog... mixed with the reason above it seems like the best thing to do!!
