Merlot
run free my angel merlot.
well it is with tears in my eyes and a huge ache in my heart that we said our farewell to merlot this afternoon.
it was 2005 when we decided to get a companion(missus)for my boy merlin.I rang around the rescue centres looking for a female shepherd,no particular age in mind, but had to hold her own with merlin being a very dominant male.Eventually i was told by one centre they had two,one was just over a year old,and the other was just over 4.So i asked for a bit of history on them, and so happened merlot had been in and out of rescue for various reasons, and they were a bit concerned because of this. But with a name like merlot and my boy merlin.it just seemed right.well they met and boy did they squabble, but i decided to give her a trial.Well they were both dominant in there own right,if he peed, shed go on and piddle over it,even swear she tried cocking her leg on a couple of occasions.
Well as the time went on they got used to each other, still squabbled(what couple doesnt)It was 2006 in the august when she had a little episode in the garden, she had only gone and eaten either a bee or wasp.(she had this thing for snapping at flies if they came by her)well this was a bee/wasp.we thought she d had a reaction to it.so took her to the vets where she was quite poorly, after x rays she was diagnosed with an enlarged heart, pills for life.life carried on as normal ,had to go on a few diets but what middle aged female dosent.she still had a few behavior issues even after this time, but nothing those eyes and that smile, couldnt get past.soon her a nd merlin became one, they seemed to think the same ,act the same.either one mimicing each other,i had the perfect family.no real health issues again was in november last year when she was diagnosed with glaucoma.and still no complaints from her even though having me put drops in her eyes 6 times a day,she took it in her stride. It must have been sore as hell but she acted like nothing was wrong. The vet said she was a fighter, how true that was to be proved.
Well as you can have it,it was the beginning of february when she was diagnosed with chronic renal failure.she had her good days .her off days.i knew ther would come a time, but kept pushing it to the back of my mind, she was a fighter, and proved me right.even on days she must of been realy poorly she still had a lick and a nuzzle for her mammy. She had a really bad eekend and i knew i had to go and have that talk with the vet(we called him uncle clive ,for merlot)i discussed everything i wanted ,what would be best,at home or in surgery,my eyes streaming as we spoke.told him id ring him ,but the little angelpulled back again, obviously i knew it wouldnt last ,another three weeks passed and kept on with the meds.
she woke me up at 5 as usual this morning for her toilet walk, she seemed a bit distant in herself but on all ok.It was just gone 7 when i heard her being sick in the kitchen,i rushed in and she was just sat there with a mess of bile.then she went to lie down, she hadnt done this for a while(she was on antepsin)so i cleaned it up,checked on her and went in the shower.i came out to her sat there looking at me,something was up.i went to the vets and spoke to the vet and got her some pills and made an appointment for this evening,so he could have a check on her.she was sick once more then seemed fine again, just a bit sorry for herslf.
well i checked on her every hour,as she was sleeping, shed lick my hand and id leave her sleep again.then it happened i checked on her at 2 and shed gone in her sleep.my little angel had finelly come to rest of her battles.shes at peace .so sleep my little angel,be at peace with your friends,we will meet again...until then i have my memories and the happiness you gave.i will treasure them for always, and with them the love you gave.
MERLOT 3 AUGUST 2000 - 25 MARCH 2011 RIP MY SWEET
