My memories of Arch
Born to a byb - although KC registered Arch was the 2nd biggest puppy in the litter. He was the one that came forward marching towards us as if to say "pick me".
We brought him home. I remember sitting on my front wall with him in my arms getting him used to people.
After he'd had his vaccinations his first walk was down to the corner pet shop. A very confident boy he strolled down the road as if to say "hello world I'm Arch". Maggie who ran the pet shop couldn't believe it was his first trip out.
We went to puppy classes which Arch enjoyed....and then he entered his teenage phase. I couldn't do a thing with him and yes I was a little scared of him.
I did not know what to do and Maggie from the corner shop told me it wasn't Arch it was me and encouraged me to come to her training club. We never looked back. She taught me how to understand you and that when I wound the lead up when another dog approached - you were only doing what came naturally and thought that I needed protection.
Maggie spotted the bond between us - you cried if I went out of your sight.
After you tried to mount me several times (!) I had you de-sexed and it did help calm you down.
During the early months of your life our vet suspected HD which turned out to be correct. I cried the day I saw your x-ray and we got your dreadful hip score.
We got Ella-Bella to keep you company and when we brought her home you got her your favourite toy. You never really left her side from that day.
I split from the person I was living with and fought tooth and nail to keep you - re-mortgaging the house in order to save you - you were worth every penny.
We never looked back - you, me and Ella-Bella. You were the man of the house!
We then met my now partner who you took to from the first time you met him and we moved to Perth, Australia.
You loved the beach and the sun and especially the pool. I decided Perth was not for us so we moved to Brisbane where we took you to the doggy cafe. You're mentioned in the owner's 5 most memorable moments as she took one look at you and thought you'd eat the rest of the customers! She soon changed her mind and you became a firm favourite at the doggy cafe. You were the UK GSD Ambassador in Australia. People adored you.
I rescued Harry and you willingly accepted him into the home (once you'd put him in his place). Harry growled at me when I went to put in the ear drops and you ran from one side of the house to "save" me. Harry never growled again....
You were sad when Harry died and then along came Poppy who you adored. You helped train her - I called you the Dog Whisperer.
I saw the signs of you weakening and I hoped against hope I was wrong. During the last two weeks of your life you were so sad. I brought the lady in to communicate with you - but I already knew what you were trying to tell me.
Our last night together I spent the night sleeping on the floor beside you. I still can't talk about your last morning as the tears are streaming down my face.
All I can say is that I loved you more than anything and I still miss you every day. You are the one, the only, the incredible, the magnificent Runaway Sir Arch. RIP my darling boy I miss you so much xx

Thank you so much for that beautiful story. I too came to tears as I read this wonderful story about your Arch, as it reminded me of my Snoopy.
Your Arch will always love you and you him...so beautiful..

You are feeling like you should, when you love and lose a very special friend. Talking and writing about your darling Arch, is part of the healing process. I cry as I read your post. You are doing well to cope. I feel for you. I have plenty of tears for my old boy Jack. But now I'v noticed, I'v started to share funny time and lovely memories with people of my special boy. We lost our Jack 2 years ago. It take's time to adjust, we learn to cope, not forget. My thoughts are with you.
