my best friend has got a west highland white terrier called teddy. she got him when he was about 5 years old from a rescue. which would have been his 3+ home. he is now roughly 16 years and 9 months.
he had a ulcur on his eye, and its been there a few weeks now, but treatment from the vet was unsuccessful. the vet said one option would be to remove eye, but, hes almost blind in his other eye or the be pts. she asked the vet what he would do, and the vet said he would do the kindest thing and put him to sleep. the vet said his age, and his mobility is poor, with his joints etc. and with his eye sight. she said ok, but she would bring him in on saturday.they wanted to give the children a chance to say goodbye. (this was yesterday)
but overnight, he has taken a turn for the worse. and hes a very poorly dog. and he will be at the vets at this very moment, for the very last time.

imo, he hasnt been right since he had a stay in kennels, last year. he went into kennels weighing 14 kgs.on the monday..less than 1 week later when they picked him up, he was less than 4 kg. and he was bleeding from his bum, eyes, and ears. they refused to pay kennel fees. and he was taken straight to vets, who diagnosed near kidney failure plus a few other things. he had to stay at the vets for almost a week, and vet said, if he was left just a few more hours, he would have died for sure. they also got kennels to pay vet fees. but he was never the same after. he never regained his weight, or health after that. when weighed yesterday, he was still only 6 kgs.
my friend also has another west highland white terrier called amber, and the 2 dogs were inseparable.
thinking of my friend and her family at this very sad time
