REBA
Hello everyone, I signed up to the forum a little while ago and after a couple of postings I just logged in to read everyone else’s thoughts. I’ve laughed at some of your stories, cried at others and admired your varied photographs. However, I thought I would post again with some sad news. I explained in my earlier posts about my GSD’s, Reba our gorgeous nine year old, and Dan our slightly mad three year old. Well, my beautiful girl Reba passed away last Wednesday morning. It was so unexpected and sudden that it still hasn’t sunk in properly. Reba was my wife Janet’s dog and she is absolutely in pieces. Reba came from the same breeder that my previous male shepherd, Max came. They were half brother and sister, same dad different mums and Reba was three years younger than Max. Janet chose Reba from her litter and a partnership that was fated to be was born. They belonged together like Rolls and Royce, Fortnum and Mason or Morecambe and Wise. Reba hit the ground running and a combination of Janet’s patience, persistence and love with Reba’s love of food and a desire to please her mum led to Reba having her good citizen gold award before she was seven months old. Janet would never entertain entering “ serious “ competition, it was always just for fun and Reba loved it. She was cleverer than most people I know. Janet was frequently asked after she retired Reba, “ Could she still do it ? “ and the answer was always a yes. A couple of years ago Dan was down to compete at a fun day to raise funds for the dogs trust and when Janet turned up with Reba she was asked to enter. Well she did, and when stood up Reba looked around and then looked up into her mum’s eyes with a look that said, “ I know what this is mum, let’s do it “. At which point they became magicians and turned the other competitors into mops and buckets before proceeding to wipe the floor with them. Dan and I took second place that day but rest assured that there was no gloating by the winning team. After I lost my Max I stole Reba for a while. Janet knew that I was in a bad way and allowed me to lean on Reba till I was through the worst of it. I could really use her right now as well. I don’t think the powers that be have ever taken 100% perfection, wrapped it in a fur coat and put it on the earth, but they did it with 99% perfection. I know because I just shared the last nine years, seven months and four days with it.

As requested, Reba with her rosette from the day I spoke of. Thank you all for your kind responses, they're greatly appreciated. I wish that you all could have met my little girl, we have three daughters but Janet always referred to Reba as "my well behaved daughter". We've had GSD's since 1976 and we've been through this a few times but I don't know if I'm just too old because this has just hurt so much.
Thanks again
Ian
