h.bradshaw has a spectacular aura about
barney

this is Barney my beautiful white gsd. we lost him very suddenly 3 years ago, he was just 5 years old. we were on holiday and Barney and Jack my collie went into kennels. they had been in once before and were quite happy, the owners were caring, reliable people. Sadie, my little collie stayed with my mum. all dogs were provided with their own food. all were given a healthcheck by the vet before we went away and all were fine during our holiday( i rang up 4 times) as soon as we landed home i picked the dogs up and about an hour later we took them on their usual walk. 5 minutes in i threw the ball for Barney and he just went down, i ran up to him, his tongue was blue and lolling out, i think he was already dead but i tried to resussitate for 15 minutes. we carried him back to the car trying to comprehend what had happened and how we were going to tell our daughter. we took him to the vets but they were reluctant to speculate how he had died and offerd us an autopsy. we couldn't bear the thought of that so we just requested his ashes. Barney could never be replaced but we all had a gaping wound in our hearts and 3 months later Rory arrived to try to heal it. Rory is my pride and joy and he is loved sooooo much, the problem is i don't enjoy him as much as i should. i'm always scared of anything happening to him, frightened of him being ill. After watching 'SEND IN THE DOGS' last night and that beautiful gsd dying suddenly of bloat i am thinking that was what was wrong with Barney and i,m frightened of losing Rory the same way. Now i am usually a level headed, reasonably intelligent woman but i can't get rid of these worry,s, all i want to do is enjoy every minutes of my beatiful boys life. sorry to be so long winded but i needed to get that of my chest.

What a beauty he was...looks like a cuddly teddy bear!

I think you're worries are perfectly understandable and ones that we can all relate to. The Send In The Dogs programme highlighted just horrible Bloat is. I think we all cuddled our furballs after watching that.

I think the important thing to remember is that you can only do your best for your dog, give them everything they need and look after them, sometimes mother nature can be very cruel and take them from us far too early.

I think you have a very handsome boy in Rory and it would be such a shame to not enjoy him fully.

Please know that you can always talk to us on here and that we really do understand where you're coming from.

It is a worry for us all how best to look after our best friends but, we can't afford to waste our precious time with our mates worrying what may happen. There are a myriad of things that could happen, there probably isn't the time in the day to worry about them all.
All our friends can expect from us is that we take care of them and take as many reasonable precautions as we can and enjoy our time with them. You have a wonderful beautiful boy there in Rory, he deserves to be enjoyed by you. If you have any concerns we are all here to lend an ear, a helping hand and share in the fun times with the pictures we all post.
The SITD program got to us all, we all felt Jasper's pain but it shouldn't stop us from enjoying our furry friends.

Hi

Your Barney was beautiful, and his unexpected death must have been such a shock, and a huge blow. I lost my Zac unexpectedly, and way before his time. There are many others on here that have the same story.
I now have my Barney, who is 16 months old, he can never replace Zac, and he is a completely different beast. I know that there is the possibilty that he could have the same condition as Zac, or he could have any number of other diseases, or debilitations, however, he is with me now, and as long, or short a time as I have with him, I intend to enjoy every moment. I will do my best to keep him with me as long as possible, but, more often than not, that is out of our hands.

Enjoy your Rory, and don't waste your time worrying about things in the future, that you probably won't have any control over.

RIP Barney, run free.
