How big is your GSD
Evening all,
Just out of curiosity really, how big is your GSD at what age??
Asking really as our "little" Jess is 9 months and has met a few other of the breed now out and about, including an adult male who she was a smidge smaller than and a 2 year old bitch that she was a clear 2 inches taller than at the shoulder? People keep looking at the size of her paws and saying "blimey, he will get a lot bigger" only to be more suprised to be told she is female
She's 25 inches tall at the shoulder currently and is very straight backed.
Any ideas on comparitive sizes & ages would be good, thanks.

When Xenos was about 9-10 months, he was that tall too. The males and females grow to the same height initially, then the males grow a bit more up to a year. The female fills out by age two, and the male will continue to fill out by about agree three. You are going into the awkward stage now, where she will look a bit skinny for a few months - more tall. She may be hitting her height "peak."
Her straight back is a big sign that she may be an American breed, not a EU one. Mine is an American GSD and he has a very straight back.

Ellie is the same age as Jess, 9 months old, and she's about 25in at the shoulder so very similar in height...
Everybody keeps calling poor Ellie a him, think it's just a assumption by most that GSD's only come in a single sex male
But funnily enough, everybody keeps refering to poor Jones as a 'she' asking if she's called June
(jone's is the gsd/corgi cross in my atavtar)

Good, thats reassuring to know, thanks My Jess is quite skinny at the moment but she seems to have gained an appetite now she's settling in so that may change in time too.
She just seemed big compared to a few local GSD's but i'm not worried about her getting bigger, she's got a few more inches to go upwards before the car would become cramped for her (then its the perfect excuse for a Landrover!)
Thanks for your input

Despite the breed standard there seems to be huge variation in size with GSDs.
A friend of mine thought her GSD was big (she'd not seen one bigger) until she met mine.., he's 2" taller than her boy.
At 20 months: he's 36" tall, 116 cm long, with a tail a further 2' Mutant alert!

I'm over in the US, and my dog Ruger is from Czech lines and American lines, he has a straight back and solid build. Gets his build from his sire's side (the Czech side).
Ruger is 17 mos old, 25.5" (approx. 64.7 cm) at the shoulder and approx. 27" (aprox 68.6 cm) long from chest to bum.
For reference: Ruger at 13 mos old, same height/length give or take a smidge:

When Bo was 10 months old, he was 30 inches to the shoulder. He is now 13 months old & weighs 42kg, he looks very tall & skinny bless him.

Breed standard says males should be around 25 inches at the shoulder and females about 23 inches. Early neutering can cause them to grow much larger as the growth plates tend to fuse later.
