Car Travel
Hi all! Counting the days now before our puppy is home (this coming friday, yeah!). Just wondering what do you use for car travel, ie do your dogs just sit on blanket on the back seat, do you have a car crate/ harnesses/ dog guards?? Advice please.Ta!

Hi Chrystie,... for you with a young puppy, I would put him/her into an open topped box make it soft with what ever,..and secure the box with the seat belt if the box is on the seat,..or on the floor, either behind you or by your feet.
Just putting him on the back seat is not good as he runs the risk of being thrown off,..a crate is ok, but in my opinion too open, and will not help with the expected car sickness
I am sure it will be its first time travelin, so expect the pup to be sick, and not sound too happy about it,..there is little you can do about this at first,..only after a few more runs are things going to improve there
...and dont forget your camera,.. we would love to see photos

When we brought Dempsey home he was in a pet carrier on the floor at the frone. Now (actually since he was about 4 months old) he's on the back seat with a harness & safety seat belt connector. He doesn't like it much, but he puts up with it!

Maddie goes in the boot with a bed, is held from escaping with a dog guard. Doesn't seem to mind it as long as we travel at over 42mph!! Above that she lies down, below that she wants to sit or stand and can fret a wee bit.

That's very precise! She's obviously got an in-built speedometer!

That's how my two travel.
There is a dog guard and a tailgate guard so they have their own compartment which has fit 4 GSDs before, so is plenty big enough hehe

That looks perfect. What car do you have? One of ours needs replacing and with 2 sheps now we're looking at replacing an elderly ford.

It's a VW Sharan.
It is great as because it is a 7 seater, we have just removed the two seats from the very back and put a rubber backed mat, and some vet bed down to make it easier to clean.
It fits our needs perfectly

Otto has always been very good in the car. When he was smaller he would lie in the foot well by my feet and go to sleep. Now he is a little bigger, he has a harness on the back seat, again he just lies down and goes straight to sleep. Unfortunately I can't get a crate that will fit in the back of my car (Audi A2) so I will probably need to change it in due course.

When Spyke was a wee puppy he used to have to sit on my knee in the back with me having bags and pads at the ready to catch his vomit So it restricted me from going out and about unless the OH was around to do the driving. But over time he got better... phew...
He now sits in the boot of my VX golf, of course I`ve removed the parcel shelf and put up a guard I`ve put down some cheap tescos own car mats (think they were £1.50 each) over the car felt and then got some blankets and towels. He`s a dream to take anywhere now and loves travelling because he knows he`s off for a nice walk/visit.
