puppy - now what do I do?
Ok - I have picked my puppy and I am going to pick it up - no problem so far! I get out of the car when I get home and walk in the front door - then what do I do?? I haven't had a puppy for about 17 years - only had cats for a long time - so really not sure what to do next. Also, I have two cats that are probably not going to like the puppy much either!! Lots of advice please!!

It has been a long time since I had a pup as well, but general advice would be to put the pup into something warm, be it the crate you may have ready for her,..or simply a cardboad box, and let her rest if she wants to,.. the trip home could have been quite stressfull for it.
Talk to it a lot, even if you are not close, the pup will want to hear your voice, take it out regular for the toilet, this is the first training it is going to get, praise it when it does something.
At some time, take the pup around the rooms you wish it to visit, it will not be long before he will want to explore, make sure the rooms are safe, rememeber that he is likely to chew things for a while,..so keep an eye on him.
feed him little and often, probably four times a day,.. but you are sure to get more detailed information on this if you ask
I wouldnt worry too much about the cats, the cats will soon except him, he is not a threat to them at this age,..so the chances are that they will all grow up getting on with each other
Then after you have the pup settled, the most important thing is a photo for the rest of us

You need to sort out the cats, and how introduction are going to be done...
When you get pupster home, ensure allow him time to explore and settle before any introductions with the cats, when you do introduce insure that you've pupster hold, and there is somewhere high for the cats to get out the way, and baby gates are brillient allowing the cats to escape if they nervous, but pupster can't follow...
When we brought Jones home, it the cats hid upstairs for several days before very slowly venturing down, and then they had a hiss, several bops etc but settled after a bit, just ensure that you don't allow pupster to chase tell him off..
Pupster proofing is wise, all wires leads anything chewable i.e shows etc moved out of harms way, or covered if can't be moved..
And prepare your self for several weeks of sleepless nights

I remember when we brought Spyke home, I kept talking to him but couldn`t help feeling sorry for him now that he had been taken away from his nine other siblings.
We let him wander around, exploring his new home but all the while talking to him. I was worried because he didn`t touch food or even water for a few hours... I was even dipping my fingers into his bowl to wet them then putting them up to his mouth. After his wander he came to each of us in his own time. I reckon it took him about 2hrs before he went for a sleep.
Yip agree with the comment... be prepared for a few sleepless nights
Can`t wait to see pictures of your new puppy.

i would say now you............ put the mop up your bum, grow about 10 more arms, learn how to see around corners, buy alot of redbull, and just try to stay calm!! hahaha
you will be fine hun it will all just sort of fall into place (well it did for us) and the best advise i got was "keep ya chin up and ya mop out, it will be worth it in the end!!" so i will pass this on to you
good luck and keep us informed AND WE NEED PICK'S LOTS OF PICK'S (we are obsessed with pick's)

hahah i can remember my first few days and tbh all i did was clean up wee and poops, it was such hard work lol My youngest cat left home for 2 days in a sulk, the other 3 were not impressed and still arnt really after 6 weeks but they are getting used to her. It all smoothes itself out, we got a good little routine going, the dog chases the cats, the cats hiss and smack her, she runs off etc etc then it all starts again - all good fun!
Good luck, you will have such fun Ive had the best time with Jess she is 13 weeks old now and my absolute life, such hard work but worth every minute but you will do othing but clean up poo at first! hahaha

hee hee, i was in this position three weeks ago with Rogue, and we're doing ok!
Still, its been a bit of a blur of being chewed, weed on and poop'd at... but now that we can get a full nights sleep its all good!!
Just have fun, relax and enjoy it, you'll get to know all the little signs and quirks and its great to watch them grow!!!
