8wk old puppy - underweight :(

Hi to everyone, our pup is 8wks old yesterday and last nt we had her in the vets for her 1st jab, the vet did all the checks etc but said she was slightly underweight. She's fed Fish4dogs 3 times a day but doesn't finish her bowl, any suggestions how to put a bit of 'beef' on her lol? Some suggest rice pudding, scrambled egg?? Any info would be great!

Tedsmum will become famous soon enough
I would feed her small meals more often during the day. aT 8 weeks she should still be on at least 4 meals per day.
It doesnt matter if you are feeding her 6 tmes a day, she may prefer to nibble littel and often. You dont necessarily have to change what you are feeding if she likes it as rapid changes to her diet could cause her to have an upset tummy.

Can you use her food for treats when training during the day?

When my pup was 8 weeks she wasn't acutally getting dinner in her bowl at all as I measured the whole days amount and just took handfulls of it throughout the day to do training, sometimes it was just rewarding her for lying calmly, but mostly it was for when she was following me, which they seem to do alot at that age and hey its a great way to teach heel!

peanut butter is supposed to be good but I wouldnt feed alot, though mine do get peanut butter and cream cheese (eww lol) in a kong if we go out they love it.

At 8 week she should be on 4 meals a day, put less in the bowl and feed more often

At 8 weeks Oka was having a meal at 6am, 11am, 3pm and 7/8pm... about 75-100g each meal i think - seems so long ago . Oka's eyes are bigger than her belly and never leaves anything unless she doesn't like it (she's raw fed but does have kibble as evening meal).

She came home on fish4dogs and I found that a couple of weeks after getting her, she went off of it and wouldn't touch it. She now happily eats Purina Pro as her evening meal.

I agree with Diva Dexie, Mishka was so hard to feed, even now you could not call her greedy. I used to and still do use over half her daily quota in toys and training, the rest of the food (Pro Plan Plus Puppy sensitive) I mix with a small amount of JWB puppy pouch food. This works for us.
