Just make sure you read the small print and google for comments on the provider, some insurers for instance will only insure a problem once
As to costs Ive been pretty lucky with all my pets but a friend of mines springer pup got a grass seed in its paw which somehow travelled up and got lodged in the spinal cord. I dont know the full facts but his total bill was over £15000 and the insurance only went to around the 9k mark I think. I think thats a pretty extreme case but it does make you think

Dempsey, who is only 18 months now, has cost £3500 over the last 9 months! Two conditions - severe gastro enteritis & bloat. My vets claimed direct from the insurers both times & there was no trouble paying out. My policy is for £7500 per condition, regardless of how long that condition goes on for, plus, I think, £6000,000 3rd party (although I'm not sure of that without checking the policy - it's that, or near that!) & it costs me just under £14 per month, but that's with the new customer discount. No doubt the renewal will be for more.

Ah not to mention the RVC let me off nearly £5,000 off his bill (kind of them ) maybe they knew i ran out of money so his total bill really should be £18,000

I have always been pretty lucky with my animals so far no major bills, most have been the yearly cost of boasters, one grass seed in paw that required antibiotics...
26 years ago £150, My cat smashed her elbow, needed pinining and wiring, once fixed never gave any problems nor need pain killers even when she got old...
17 years ago £125, A dog I just adopted (down after getting him home) came down with pavo virus, spent a week in vets on drip etc, then a special diet of boiled chicken and rice..
I haven't got Jones or Ellie insuranced as I can't find an insurance policy that I'm comfortable or feel that you are getting fair cover for your money..
I've been putting money aside for them, Sadly I lost my dad eariler this year, and some of my inheritence will be put into this bank account for them.
