Can I ask do you approach this in a different way to your wife??? It seems strange that she's ok with them doing it but not you.

Perhaps you could try getting your wife to distract and treat her whilst you dry her paws so she starts to associate you doing it with good things?

Caryll is a jewel in the rough
I agree with above. Also, don't try to hold her down as she'll get even more spooked. Might be an idea to ask your wife or son to hold her collar while you rub her down & take it from there.

Very often when we ignor a certain action by a dog, the dog then see`s that there is no more to gain from doing it,..I know that it is difficult to ignor this kind of thing,... but if you were to wear a jacket, or something that would make the bite inefective, and just carried on doing what you want to do, then maybe progress would be made.

I have no experience with this,...its just an idea that I would want to try

I wouldn't expect to see immediate results, you need to keep doing it and having her distracted and as Stuart said ignore the bad behaviour.
