Lead - the very first time!!

This has probably been posted a thousand times but our 10wk old has her 2nd jab tomorrow and can go out a week later. Yesterday we put her lead on in the hopes to walk her round the garden.....hahaha...or not shall we say! DISASTER haha.......Breaks were on big time - this girl is going nowhere. Any suggestions??

Tedsmum will become famous soon enough
Buy a flat nylon puppy collar and put it on her all the time so that she gets used to the feel of something around her neck first.
Then put the lead on for only 5 mins at a time and tempt her to move with something really smelly and tasty. One step should be enough to be rewarded the first time then build up to a few steps.
Don't ever pull on the lead, she will only pull the opposite way. Wait until she moves herself and praise her plenty.
It is a strange thing for any animal to get used to but she will with patience and time and lots of practice. x

Bonniesmummy is a jewel in the rough
I agree with tedsmum I would also try just putting the lead on in the sitting room and just let her run around with it on not holding it, I did that with Bonnie and treated her. She soon got used to it after a few times doing that and didn't have any bother when it was time to go out

zetstaff is a name known to allzetstaff is a name known to all
Boris screamed his head off the first time he had a collar + lead on, neighbours thought there had been an accident

Just took first walk at his pace + he soon was more interested in all the lovely smells + activity outside + collar was soon forgotten

Now you can't go anywhere near the 'getting dressed' room without a big blue face glued to your side

LOVEGSD is just really niceLOVEGSD is just really nice
I would agree with Tedsmum too, get her used to the collar first and then when you put the lead on just let her walk with it dragging on the floor, lots of praise and lots of treats and then progress to holding the lead but don't pull on it.

Haha this brings back memories, my excitement of getting a collar and lead on Jess to practice round the garden ha what a laugh that was, absolutely no chance!!! We did the same tho and just left her to run round with the lead on. TBH when im getting ready to take her out now I clip the lead on her and she just bites on it, she wont let go and even bites on it for the first 5 minutes of the walk until she gets distracted! lol (shes just coming up to 5months)

good luck it all comes together in the end! lol

I'm so glad Oka isn't the only that does that! She also bites the harness as we put it on which makes it a little impossible to get on!
