Bathing

Hi just want to know if i would need to wash the dog in the bath because my family do not like the sound of this. Would we be able just to rub shampoo then wash it out outside with cups of warm water?

VERY novice owner here

I'd not wash mine in the bath either. Hosepipe outside for mine, no shampoo as it removes coat oils. If it's freezing out I'll sponge the worst off with tepid water. Let them shake outside.

Towel dry in one direction only, along the direction of the coat to avoid getting undercoat damp.

I always used to stick mine in the bath- just do it on the same day I'm going to clean the bathroom! Maybe I'm soft but I wouldn't like a cold shower in the garden so I doubt the dogs would appreciate it! Also as its cold out I would do it after our last walk so they could dry out all the way through in the evening and over night with the heating on! I can't wait for my shower to be fixed next week, as soon as it is Jerry Lee is going in it as he stinks!

No river close by that can be used, my dogs have never been `bathed`, its either been the sea, loch, or river

yep you can bath in ur bath Ellie is done, i wouldnt advise bathing more regularly than about 10-12 weeks, Watch out for water in the nose n ears and do the head last as they will shake n u will be bathed as well! lol U can pre mix some shampoo in a bottle and use that so its easier to spread out and not concerntated in one area. or use a shower puff exfoliator thing, put some shampoo on there and rub it in a bit then use that on the dog

My Boys are 21 and 23 months only been washed with shampoo in the shower once in their lives and that was recently.
Other times if really muddy Kaiser gets hosed down he quites likes it actually and TRoy goes in a tin bath and has jugs of water over him, he hates the hose pipe.
I would only shower with shampoo once a year due to the protective oils in their coat.

I use the bath for Diesel, he gets bathed maybe once a year and I put a long bath mat on the bottom so he doesn't slip.

sasha gets bathed twice a week, she's used to it now & jumps in herself. We did try her in the wet room downstairs but she just messed about trying to catch & drink the water. In the bath its 10 mins from start to finish.

Can't really answer cos our Dex just jumps in the bath when we do, silly little sod that he is. We could stop him, but its quite cute and not really something that can grow into problem behaviour I don't think. He also likes to join us in the shower.

Not sure how the bubble bath affects him, but he doesn't seem too bothered by it, and always has a lovely shiney coat!
