Just to say that a puppy should not be left alone with an adult dog in any case....

I would say 4hours & crated is what I would do.

Mine are left together and they're 10 months and 2 years... they get on. So would you not leave them then, Poly, or do you mean younger pup with older dog?

I would also never leave a puppy and another dog alone together , you never know what could happen . Mine are left for no more than 4 hours .

My two were about 18 months + 6 months when we started leaving them together. One day Tilly flatly refused to go in her cage + snuggled up to Boris on the sofa. They obviously love each other soooo much, I couldn't separate them.

We've left them apart ever since. I don't think anyone can say with any conviction 'you can't leave an older dog with a pup etc' I think it depends on the dogs + whether or not you think you can leave them.

In our case it was probably worse because the older dog was only 12 months older !!!!

You have to trust your instinct is what I think xxxxxxx

I certainly can say it with conviction, Ive heard of far too many accidents happening when a young pup has been left un-supervised with an older dog. The same as I wouldnt leave a dog alone with a child - you may 100% trust your dog - but accidents can and sadly do happen.

Like I said, you have to trust what your instinct is I think !!!

Haven't got children so don't have that problem here, I'm not that stupid that I would leave my dogs alone with anyone else's children

I think that if you have something set in your mind, you'll never move on from there

That's the great thing about forums like this, we all have different opinions

Personally I wouldnt leave a pup of that age more than 3hrs, Echo is over 6 months now and I still havent left her longer than that though Im sure she would be ok now I guess much depends on your pup but I never really leave Echo anywhere based on everything Ive read hear and elsewhere rather than personal knowledge.

I am lucky enough though that my wife works shifts mt oldest only has college 3 days a week and Echo can come to work with me any time that isnt covered and if we do go out we have to have a babysitter for my youngest son anyway so we are still covered. I realise its not as easy for everyone though
