coming into season

Mishka is now just over 6 months old and I have been wondering about her 1st season. So any help will be great.
How will I know she is in season?
Will there be signs before it starts?
How long does it last?
Can they get pregnant throughout the whole of the season?
And do dogs get grumpy too?
Kind of related question, how many seasons should she have before we spay her? (Well not me personally I think maybe a vet might be a good idea)

You'll KNOW when she's in season

All doggies are different, the thing I first noticed with Tilly was her little girlie bits were very swollen. Then she started bleeding. I know other people have had bitches who haven't bled, but not happened to me so can't say about that.

Would usually last about 3 weeks or so, but Tilly had a split season so it went on forever

The danger time is the last third of the season, when she'll be receptive + turn into a tart I kept Tilly in through most of her season as didn't want to risk anything. I believe some bitches display a sort of grumpiness, Tilly was just a bit quiet 'what's happening to me mum' kind of look on her face

Spaying - all will have different opinions. My vet is keen to spay before first season, greatly reduces risk of mammary tumors later in life. We had her booked in when she came into season, so had to wait till after that. I've never had a bitch before, always dogs, so didn't really know much before. I think I probably would have had her spayed before her first season, but I know some think it's better to let her have at least one. I was just guided by my vet

I'm no authority on bitches, but hope this helps xx

The first signs of a season i find (so my opinion based on 6 bitches) is a tendancy to become more clingy also seems to coinside with a fear stage extra weeing and a very swollen back end oh and dont forget the blood

Seasons last on average 26 days but not on all of these days can a bitch become pregnant (thank god) it is generaly taken that around the 12-14 day a bitch will become fertile but this is not always the case it varies from girl to girl it also varies from season to season so its best to confine walking to a place where you are unlikely to meet other dogs or any off lead dog.
Some bitches can get grumpy before, during and just after seasons be again this just depends on your bitch.
I always advice to let a bitch have 2 seasons before spaying so they can mentaly and physically mature longer if you can cope

How much blood are we looking at during a first season? The reason I ask is I have two young children (the oldest is 7) and I don't want to have to tell them anything about the birds and the bees just yet!!

Also, I know my breeder wants me to let Willow have a season but I have heard that you can have problems like womb infections so I was wondering about my options.

Going to be honest, its bad, if you are anything like me you will be walking round with a mop atached to you for a least 3 weeks tops, when you start to see the blood it means they are in the second week xxxxxxx come the third season I got the huggies night time nappies for kids xxxx lol best thing I did xx

MY daughter was given the basic facts by me when she was about 6 or 7 (age-appropriate language!), but don't forget that they have sex education lessons at school at a very young age now!

Ellies had 2 now and her second one she was such a tart! We walk with dogs we kno are done so no accidents but she kept shoving her bum in their faces lol!! She was a bit off sorts after and vet suspected a hormonal phantom but no milk was produced so just left her to it. With her issues we are leaving it a bit to spay as she is very young in her development (she is nearly 2.5 but acts more like a 6 month old!!)
Bleeding, I modified a pair of hubby's boxers to fit her and it also covered her "hot cross bun" my hubby would freak out about lol!!!
