newbie needing guidance plz!

Hi, we recently took on a 5 month old gsd as his prev owners had him locked in the kitchen all day- zeus is a joy to be owned by and has settled in well.
We have had him 5 weeks now and is very well behaved, enjoys puppy classes and is very obedient- i take him for a walk every morning which ends with a fetch session on the field (we are out for about an hr- hr1/4), we then play football in the afternoon in the front garden and my husband takes him for a walk before bed time every evening- i also play with him during the day in the house...... my question is this- is he getting enough exercise or too much, after his rough start in life i just wanna make him as happy as can be! thanks in advance for any advice/help x

Please be careful not to over-exercise, off lead or long line exercise is better than too much lead walking on their joints.

Great to hear he's settling in so well and enjoying his puppy classes....x

As already said, not too much lead walking at his age, but it sounds like you're doing a fine job!

pamella is on a distinguished road
he sounds like a very lucky pup to have been saved by you.
i'm no expert as ours is my first and hubby has had adult home gsd's and gsd's in the army.we tend to be guide by how ours when walking him.we have noticed him gradually lengthen his walk/park play times himself.you sound like you care enough to be observent enough to notice your dog tiring.

Gorgeous looking dog - every dog is different but sounds fine to me Diesel doesn't get much more in the week and he is coming up to 3 now.

What a lucky dog he is to have found you. I didn't give Arch this much excercise when he was that age but that was because he had HD and it was very apparant as he limped after excercise.

I think you've done a wonderful thing adopting him.

Shrap has a spectacular aura about
I believe the general rule is 5 minutes of walking per day, per month of age (on lead walking on concrete).
Which would mean 25 minutes per day walking on concrete + play time on soft areas like grass. Do be careful not to over exercise on concrete as it can do so much damage to their joints! Obviously you need them to release energy and build muscle too so play time on grassy areas and lots of mental stimulation will be needed

oh noooo. we have been walking pappy to much then
we been taking him 2 hours a day. 1 hour in a morning, and 1 hour on an afternoon. if its 5 mins per month of their life, pappy should only be getting 40 mins a day
for the last week or so though, pappy has only been getting 1 hour or so all day, we cut it down a bit because he had hurt his back leg running and pulled something.
