How long to walk ?

Hi all
Sheba has now had all her jabs & we are venturing outside. So far we have been doing gentle 20 - 25 min walks (twice a day), & she is full of energy !!!!! Is this about right length of walk ?? Could I increase or will this put too much strain on her joints ?

I wouldnt do anymore than what you are at the moment as she is still very young, as she gets older gradually increase it. If you find she still has loads of energy after a walk then play with her at home or do some training to keep her wee mind active too.... she will soon tire after a walk and some 'brain games'

Depends where you're walking, lots of lead walking isn't good but free play is better.

I personally think that's too much if it's street walking, shouldn't be doing too much street walking till at least 6 months.

Get Sheba running around the garden + gradually build up street walking

Most of all enjoy x

Some is street but mainly in local park (dependant on weather). She has been having daily sessions in the garden for the past few weeks

I was always told that it was 5 minutes per month until 18 months old! This is probably being very cautious though. I know how you feel - I'm trying to be careful with Mav but now if I take him out for less than 45 minutes he is such a handful and doesn't sleep. I wasn't very well yesterday and could only manage 20 minutes and he howled all night because he was wide awake.
I try to tire Mav out with mental stuff - training tires them out really quickly, learning commands combined with play is good to stimulate and use up lots of energy.

We are in the same situation after 'Tegan' is now allowed out so to speak.

I have been limiting it to 15-20 minutes street walking twice a day and lots of play in the back garden.

Today took her to the beach for about 45 minutes, but walking and resting, running and resting on the soft sand.

I was told the same, lessen the street walking and do more open free play.
