Sorry another Insurance question..
Was just looking at Insurance quotes for pup, though when he comes home, we will get 4 weeks free Insurance through the KC.
Tesco seem to have a good offer on at the moment, 50% off, just done a quote and it gave us the option of standard cover which would give us cover of £2500 upto 12 mths vet treatment, or there is extra which would give us £4000 upto 12 mths....both £60 excess, which I thought was very reasonable. My qs is, do people tend to cover on a standard policy or go for the higher?
Thank you

Hiya,
Be carefull with the 12 month policys, ideally a lifetime policy would be better incase the dog ever suffers a long term problem. 12 month policys will only cover the condition for 12 months where as lifetime will cover for as long as u pay the monthly renewall.

Thank you Zak.
What insurers are best to look at for this?
Sam.

I've always gone for the higher policy because I have a bull terrier & they are known to swallow things they shouldn't & are liable to emergency operations to get rid of it! My own insurance covers £7500 per illness for as long as that illness lasts & for life if necessary. I used M & S for the first year of Dempsey's cover, but then switched to Sainsbury's. Both were very reasonable & both paid out without quibbling when needed.

Hi,
Zak is currently insured with Petplan, I spent days looking into this. I found Sainsbury's were highly recommended by numerous people on forums and they apparently pay out with no problems. Petplan are a little more expensive but they have the best relationship with the vets. If I did not go with Petplan it was going to be Sainsbury's.

I have direct line platinum policy, it covers for all eventualities for life.ie, if my dog has a heart condidtion at a vey young age all his reatment will be covered for life, not cut off after 12 months as standard policies would.
I have made many claims and had no problems.
it costs me £125 for my 5 dogs, aged 2 to 11 years.
when buying ins make sure you are not paying for something you don't need. ie. kenneling if you go into hospital....
ask them to go through everything with you and ask them to take off what you dont need, it will save you a few quid

Thank you everyone, will have a look at them all My mother in law was with petplan when she had her Yorkie, and she never had any problems with them paying out.
What should I be wanting the insurance to cover? Third party liability etc?
Again thank you

Just a thought, if you do go with Petplan tell them you know of someone that just signed up and got 12 months cover for just 11 months, and also got a 10% discount on top. might save you a few £££.
