Rehoming advice

I have been thinking about adding another GSD to our family for a bit now, and to start with I just thought about another puppy. But I see so many unwanted GSD dogs on this site that I think maybe I could offer a home to a rescue dog.
I do however have some concerns about doing this so any help please would be great.
The biggest issue I have is I must be able to trust the new dog with my Grandchildren and as I wouldn't know what had gone in in their lives in the past how can I be sure of them.
Also what if I accepted a dog and he/she hated my other dogs. I mean I truly believe a dog is for life but I couldn't bear to think it would make my other girls miserable.
also would it be best to go for a dog or a bitch.
So many questions, I just don't won't to make a huge mistake but I feel we could offer a lovely home to some poor unloved dog.
HELP

I think the important thing is to go to a rescue that has a good reputation, you will never know for sure what has happened to a rescue dog so no-one could guarantee any dog around kids, even our own tbh.

Most rescues will say if the dog is good around kids and what ages, plus you will also have to take your dog to meet the new dog so you can see how they get on.

There are lots of people on here that have rescued dogs with no issues at all.....I think it's lovely to be able to help a dog in need.

Keep us posted with what you decide.

Where abouts in the UK are you?

Sometimes dogs come into rescue that have been brought up with children, also there are sometimes puppies too.

There is also the BIGGSD site:

I would try and go for a dog that has been in a foster home, rather than in kennels. That way you will have a better idea of what the dog is like around children/other dogs etc. in a 'normal' family environment.

GobbySchäferhund is a jewel in the rough
When i was young my parent rescued a GSD from a rehoming shelter, TBH he was the greatest dog you would ever meet ( In my opinion). I aksed my dad what if he turns out to be naughty , his reply was i looked in his eyes and i could tell he was the right one, in other words id say it was instinct, you kind of click with a certain dog and you just know.....

Just a thought
