The right distance to walk a puppy...

Sorry for another complete noobie question, hope you don't mind.

I took Blitz to meet my Aunts Springer Spaniel last night and while there we were talking about good places to walk etc.
My Aunt mentioned that when their dog, Pepsi was first allowed to walk they were told to only do 5 minutes per month of age, so when she was 3 months, they walked her 3 times a day for 15 minutes at a time. At 4 months, 20 x 3 etc.
She said walking a puppy too far too soon can cause muscle and bone problems as it doesn't build them up properly.

Is this true for GSDs as well? Is the above guideline correct or is there another I should be following?

Ofcourse, Blitz can't walk for another 2 weeks (can't come soon enough) but we need to be doing it right.

Sorry again, eventually, I will stop being such a noob.

Thanks

Lucy and Blitz

As well as lead walks they need off-lead free running to develop their hip and gluteal muscle strength. Mine have all had more than the 'guidelines' and been fine, but you have to be sensible and avoid them jumping about too much. Easier said than done - we've a low wall at the back of our garden and Zee would launch herself off that with all legs outstretched like she was trying to fly off it!
