Car Crate

We have a 2 door hatchback car and at the mo, we have put the back seats down with some big blanket to cover the seats for Diva to lay on when we drive somewhere (she is secured with a harness attached to the seat belt so she cant just run around or do herself some damage!) but we are thinking of getting her a crate; we went down PAT last night and considered oen of their medium crates which would fit in the car but when she got in it, she could lie down but it looks like it was abit of a squeeze and we dont want her to feel too uncomfortable when travelling. So my question is: what are the alternative? Obviously a larger crate is a no-no as it wouldnt fit in our car..

Have you thought of a dog guard and a tail gate cage you will give the dog more room and the back flap will mean you can open the back door with your dog safe you can some times get them second hand to fit your car try ebay or Agility net flee market

Hi,
I struggled to get a decent crate the right size for ours.
I enquired earlier on this forum, about anyone who makes made to measure crates.
They are out there, but are very expensive.
Luckily I have a great next door neighbour who has made me one to fit a RAV4 SWB. Its a permanent DOGmobile now. The rear seats are out, and the crate is in.
Thats your alternative IMO, get one made by someone who knows the business. i.e. Metalworking industry.
Then yours will enjoy their journey 100% in safety.

If you do decide to get a crate and can find one that fits, it may be worth you looking on ebay. I bought Willow's crate for the house from ebay at less than a third of the price of Pets at Home. I can't really advise on sizes though as we have an estate car. One thing we found is that some crates that we tried, we have to put in the car flat and then assemble in the car as they wouldn't fit through the boot door once they were up. Also, I think Argos sell some crates that have sloping backs so that they fit in a hatchback - I don't know what sizes they are but maybe they would fit your car.
