Im new to this... Help - Night time please!!!
Hi all, OMG I have a puppy GS!!
She's 11 weeks old, all black with a tiny bit of white on her chest. I need some advice please!!
I collected her yesterday and she was perfect in the car, just sat on my friends lap the whole way home and was very good. Got her home, she checked it all out, slept in her crate for 1.5 hours, wee'd in the house twice, then garden once then house twice more then garden again so is that good?! She also done her 1st poo on a wee wee mat in the house this morning.
Hmm, now then, last night.. We put her in her cage and at first she was quiet... 5 mins later crying and wimpering so I went to comfort her. 10 mins later crying and whimpering lots so stupidly, I gave in and let her out and slept downstairs with her. She was as quiet as a mouse but I guess she would be?! Tonight my husband is going to sleep downstairs but put her in her cage where she can see him. The following night im going to put the radio on and try and sleep upstairs. I tbought this because it is her first 2 days in a new home and she had been seperated from her parents and siblings. Is this a good plan? please help and advise me as I'm scared!!
PS - this is my 1st ever dog!

She`s never been alone before and she`s in a strange place. Dogs - especially baby ones - need company. Why not have the crate beside your bed for a while till she gets to know you?

Not a good plan! Sorry.
You have to decide if you want your dog to sleep on her own in her crate or with you first of all. If it's in her crate, I'm afraid you're going to have to lose some sleep over the next few nights & just let her cry. Sounds awful, I know, but........By all means put some quiet music on & I usually have a night light on for mine!
You could try getting up at around 4am to let her out for a wee, but only if she's quiet. Otherwise she'll associate crying with you coming to see her & she won't settle at all.
If you can't stand that, then you could try putting her crate in your bedroom so that she knows you're there & she isn't alone.
P.S. Welcome to the forum!!

As Caryll has said first decide where she will sleep then go from there. When we brought Sheba home I spent the first two nights on the front room floor before putting her into the kitchen (where she sleeps now). We had a few restless nights getting up to let her go to the toilet but that didn't last long. Make your plan, have patience & you will be fine
Welcome to the forum & good luck

Hello + welcome
You've had good advice already so I've nothing to add.
It is scary but it gets better, everyone does things differently, my 2 sleep in bed with us but that's our choice.
The only thing you have to remember is start as you mean to go on + you'll be fine. There'll always be someone on here ready to advise you xxx

When I got Maya,at 8 weeks..I let her sleep in my bed for the first 2 nights by the third night I left her downstairs in the living room and she was fine,I would go and check if she needed a wee around 2 am and then at 6 am I would wake up..the first 4 weeks I was so tired but she got into a routine..now at 7 month she sleeps in the living room in her bed even if live my bedroom door open she stays there and she comes every morning to wake me up at 7 I don't need an alarm clock anymore but every dog is different this is just the way I felt ..good luck with your new bundle of joy!!

Welcome to the forum,
Its been a long time since I had a pup in the house, but even when I have had a young dog, I brought the dog close to us at night to reasure it for a couple of days, this maybe as much for us as the dog though,...so it is debatable
I understand what Caryll is saying, and I would do what he suggested, just not right from the start, good idea about the radio, this will give a certain amount of comfort
..... but I would make sure you put the alarm on a couple of times through the night to put the pup outside, the more you can get her to go outside the quicker you will get her house trained.
Which ever way you go, it is never going to be an easy few weeks

Thank you
Thank you all so much, I really needed some advice and that's what youve given me. By what I put earlier, do you think I've dome the right thing and she's doing well considering we haven't had her for 24 hours yet? Also, I just 10 mins ago literally put her lead on, took her in the garden and she wee'd again in the same spot as before!

Your doing fine and the best thing you did do was join this forum, we will all be here to help
When she wee's outside..... Lotsssss of praise!!! Totally exaggerate it so she realises that it's go to go outside, if she does it indoors don't give her a row , if you catch in the act say no and take her outside to finish. If you don't see her doing it do nothing but also dont clean it up in front of her either, just remove her and clean it up & make sure you use a good cleaner as she will be attracted to the smell and go in the same place
Welcome by the way xxxx

Sound advice all round.
I, by choice, allow mine upstairs. He comes up with me and after about 20/30 mins goes down and settles downstairs. Wakes me up am.
Just remember as said - this is a baby in a strange place, with strange ( ) people and suddenly no siblings....... needs some comfort and tlc to settle first, then decide on sleep habit.
I have always regularly taken round the garden - on and off lead. They very soon learn to go outside to relieve - takes perseverence for a few weeks. Also try to introduce pup to how to ask to go outside - watch for a signal and encourage it.
enjoy your baby - won't be a baby long
You have the terrible 2s and teens to look forward to, so you'll be on again
