My gs is supposed to be spayed!!!!!

Hi guys

We have had Maddie since December and all is fab, She is very well behaved apart from she has taken a dislike to every other dog on the planet (apart from my bulldog)

I came home from work the other morning and saw a few spots of blood on the floor. I didn't think much of it because my bulldog has allergies and scrapes his chin on the floor sometimes making it bleed. Yesterday we noticed more blood and it seemed to be where ever Maddie had been sat.

We took her to the vet today the vet examined her, shaved her belly (there is a scar there) and did an internal exam. She couldnt feel any signs of "polyps" dunno what that means and she hasnt got an infection either.

The only other thing she could come up with was getting her spayed even though she may have already been done but i will have to pay the full amount for the privilage to find out.
I really dont want her undergoing a op that isnt necessary and it doesnt seem like a proper season as there is very little in the way of blood but my bulldog is following her around and trying his luck.

So now what????
Is it possible for a spay op to not work ???

Thanks for any advice

It could be that she's in season...

Ellie first and only season, it was really hard to tell as she lost very little blood at all, and she really didn't swell that much... Mind you Jones was a very keen little man indeed thankfully he's is neutered phew! he either had his nose stuck to her bottom or was trying to mount her

Can they not do a scan under sadation or can't that be done with animals!

Were you actually told that she had been spayed? If so, who told you?

Yes we were told by the previous owner that she had been spayed. Her previous owner had her for 18 months and got her from a rescue shelter (the rescue shelter said that she had been spayed there)
Then due to a breakdown of relationship with her husband her previous owner could no longer look after her so we took her on.

We have had her for 4 months now and have tried to contact the previous owner to ask but no joy

It seems that the only way to find out is lots of expensive blood tests

So now im confused !!! we have been told she has been spayed, she has the scar but she seems to be in season

I found this......

This FAQ is taken from the Veterinary Medicine forum, where NIGHTSTARR1221 asks:
"Our female dog was spayed when she was 4-5 months old. She is now 1-1/2 years old and bleeding; our male dog keeps trying to mate with her. The vet told my husband that sometimes this happens and that the way the dogs uterus is sometimes they miss an ovary and have to go back in. I cannot see that this is possible if they removed the uterus. Does anyone know if this is possible?"
Answer: In short, yes, it is possible for a dog or cat who has been spayed to show signs of heat (bleeding, attracting males, behavioral changes) on rare occasion after the spay surgery. How can this happen? The female dog and cat anatomy and the spay surgical procedure must be discussed first to understand how a pet can seem to be in heat after a surgery to prevent pregnancy and heat cycles.
In the dog and cat, the uterus is shaped like a very long "Y". The common stem (base of Y) is very short relative to the long "arms" or horns of the uterus. The horns are where the puppies and kittens are formed, attached, and grow during gestation. The ovaries, while separate from the uterus, are attached via ligaments and blood vessels to both the uterine horns and body. The veterinarian must separate the ovaries from the attachments in the body by clamping and tying off (ligating) the blood vessels. The uterus is then removed at the body (base of the "Y"), usually above the cervix so that the cervix remains in the body.

Each ovary is in a sac. The sac is often filled with fat -- more so in older or overweight animals. Sometimes the ovarian tissue is diffuse, sometimes it is very small or not well formed at the time of the spay. It may also be ectopic, meaning it isn't where it should be in the body (a congenital problem). In these abnormal situations, when the veterinarian clamps the tissue to ligate the blood vessels, very small bits of ovarian tissue may remain in the body after the surgery. This tissue can then grow and respond to chemical signals from the brain to produce the hormones that cause the heat cycle (estrus).

How then can the pet actually bleed if the uterus and ovaries have been removed? Well, the lining tissue of the remaining vagina can swell and bleed in response to the hormones, simulating a heat cycle. Unless the uterus was not removed, your pet will not get pregnant. Other possible situations that could simulate a heat cycle could be a vaginal or bladder infection, so your veterinarian will need to examine your pet to be sure.

That was very helpful, Thank you very much!!!

It seems to tally with what the vet was saying it just seems that the only way to find out for definate is some blood tests. I really really dont want to put her through another op

Maddie is deff not impressed with the attention from my bulldog, Not in a nasty way she just seems to be really upset by it and is trying to hide away from him all the time

Do you think this may be a one off, I was asking because the bitch next door is in season also and thought it may have triggered something in her?????

Thanks in advance xx

ClaireandDaisy will become famous soon enough
Bitches often come in season together.
Personally, I would assume the bitch were in season and treat her that way. Separate the two dogs and keep a close eye on the bitch.
IME people tell lies to `get rid` of dogs so I`d treat any history with a pinch of salt and go on the evidence in front of me.

Ok,
So we have come to the agreement that Maddie is infact not spayed after all as she has had every sign under the sun of a season (bleeding, Tail flagging, change in personality)

Up to now we are on week 3, The bleeding started on week 1 then seemed to stop on week 2 and she is now bleeding again but the colour is more a deep red than a bright red.

My Male Bulldog (in tact) is going absolutly bananas to the point where we cant even let them on the back garden together (supervised of course) because he make a bee line straight for her and will not leave her alone not even to do his buisness.

We have now resorted to seperate rooms 24 hours a day, seperate toilet times and seperate walks.

My question is will he ever leave her alone and stop trying to hump her all the time????
Has he now realised that she is a female and will be trying to hump her forever???
I have read that when she is out of season she will tell him off but i think that she is so gentle that she wont. I have found her cowering in the corner once with my bulldog trying with all his might to mate with her hence my reason for not thinking that she will tell him off.

It is just getting so frustrating that they both no longer want to play as Maddie is cowering away from Apollo and Apollo is doing nothing but trying to hump

Will it ever end!!!!

When she is no longer in season not only will she tell him off but she won't smell so interesting either. The fertile time of a season is generally from about day 11 to 15 but can be as late as day 18 in some bitches so judging from when you first noticed spots around now is the critical time but things should get better in another week.
