Puppy update x

Hi all,

I just thought I'd let you know how my little Rio is settling in after her 10 days with us.

Well, at night time she goes straight into her crate and lays down bless her at about 10.15pm even when were still watching telly! when we go upstairs theres absolutely no crying what so ever! she's even gone 1 full night from 10.45pm till 6.15am without soiling it! Ok, that was a one off but hey, I can't expect miracles can I?!

I would say she's 95% potty trained now too. She goes for a wee and poo outside in the garden and on the rare occasion she may go for a wee indoors and shock me, even when the back door is open. Why does she do that?

On the training side I've taught her to 'sit' on command and also to 'lay down' too! She does both of them easily now!

How do I teach her to 'stay'? And also how do I get her to give me her paw too? I'm eager now!!

Xx

You and Rio seem to be doing very well on all counts...well done

To teach the `stay`.. sit the Rio down,..then show the flat of your hand quiet close to him,..with the command `stay`,.. you only want to take one step away before you call Rio too you,...if you try to go back too far, Rio will want to follow you,... just one step at a time untill he has the hang of that,..then increase the distance,.. if it helps, get your other half to hold Rio in the sit, untill you call him to you,.. but do not force him in any way,.......dont forget the treat when it is done properly and lots of excited praise

To give the paw,.. I sat the dog down, asked for a paw, while lifting his paw up to me,..then giving a treat,.. they soon pick it up, and he will be offering his paw soon enough,..again excited praise on completion
