Time for Addition

Holding my breath and after considerable thought I think Fritz is ready for a Companion.. Fritz is comming upto 2 end of July.. when we've been on walks etc hes interacted marvellous with other dogs other than that Akkita episode. Im at present workig from home and have been for a cpl of months now so Im still always home..

I contacted a lady stating she has a GSD bitch 17mths old.. but she has been in a few scrapes, stated that she'd had the dog since she was born as she bred her.. the woman stated also she has 8 gsd's all live in the same house.. None kenelled. I asked her how much she wanted for her shes stated nothing, you seem interested in the breed.. dog lover blah blah..

Her face has a few scars and she said that one of her pads had torn she'd her words stuck it back together.. i asked about the state of teh foot walking.. what does she like do toys how is she with teh others..

she said she was teh runt of one of her litters.. seems to be a little shy at comming forward.. I asked is she agressive has she picked fights?? then she said oh dont worry about her season she's never stood.. i asked when her last season was she said that it was march this year..

Ive attatched teh pictures i was sent to my mobile as I equested she sent 1st one i then asked can you take a picture of her outside please..

My intentions are to watch her with the others 7 dogs.. if permitted but what exactly will i be looking for? Im in hope that fritz will welcome the addition if i decide 110% that the bitch addition will be good for them both.. paramount fritz..

Would gsd's bully a weak one?
if shes had this girl 17mths from pup why let her go?
hope ive explained ok... I can afford this as in budget food vets etc..
shes said all jabs are to date etc..
then I asked what does she eat... biscuit and tinned meat ... fritz has raw

she looks so sad does this girl...

again no intention to get her caught and i'd book her in to the vets for spaying..

My advice would be don't get her UNLESS she interacts well with your dog. Its tempting to feel sorry for her, but if she's the runt and is nervous she'll have all sorts of issues which could affect the behaviour of your dog.

I speak from experience. Some friends took on a 8 month bitch as companion for their 3 year old male. From first meeting bitch was very nervous, scared of their male, but they took her, felt sorry for her. She's got nervous aggression, had a lot of issues, not great with other dogs she doesn't know, scared if people approach her etc. An unsteady girl but they love her.

50% of dog's temperament is genetic, so any inherited windyness will not be changed. Getting a second dog is a much more difficult decision than the first if they're adults / rescues. When I got Zee at 7 months the meeting with my other dog was totally different - they played instantly together. So I knew she'd be a good match.

Consider it very carefully would be my advice. Don't let your heart rule your head.

Fritz is the decission maker!

Your Job is to seek out the 'possible' companion to introduce to Fritz.

My remit for my second dog was due to Jones confidence issues I was looking for a older confident dog to show him the ropes/support but Jones would have the last say in the matter!

I did go to see an older 6 years shepherd that fitted the bill, but Jones thought better of it and completely snub her, she was lovely dog indeed, but alas Jones said NO..

I wasn't interested in a puppy, purely due to Jones confidence issues and the effect this would have on a puppy... But Ellie was a 5 month old puppy in the Kennels and what harm could it do to give her a bit of socialisation and play with Jones in the Paddock

Err they feel in Love the moment they clapped eyes on each other, there interaction was amazing, also Ellie's with us... My head was telling I couldn't have Ellie, Jones lack of confidence would be passed down etc etc... But my heart was telling me to follow Jones instinct..

I chose to follow Jones's instict!

I don't have anything to add except that this sounds like solid advice that I would take fully on board before commiting to anything. Goodluck! xx

You will know what to do when they meet.
I'm a bit too soft, and I'v let my heart rule some times.
Thank goodness after a little time, it all turned out well.
You will put your own dog first, and thats right to do so.
I think the dog in the pic's looks sad bless her but thats jmo.
Good luck in all you decide to do.

Poor girl. I think I'd take her to get her out of that situation and then contact a rescue group - or maybe I'd speak to the rescue group prior to getting her so they could arrange emergency foster care beforehand if she didn't get on with my dogs.

Scars on the face, sticking the pad back together - poor girl.

I feel sorry for this poor girl, sounds like she is not getting all the love she could be. If you do take her on I really hope it works out for the 3 of you.

Don't believe anything you are told about her, take her as you find her.

Dogs can behave very differently when they are in a new home, it is difficult to predict how she will be with Fritz - she may be different with him as he is a totally different dog and he is only one on his own, whereas she has been living with 8. Even if you let them meet it still does not guarantee that is how she is going to behave all the time when living with you. You could find that once she is home with you and settled that her confidence grows and she becomes a bossy little madam!

The fighting could have been between the bitches, often breeding bitches will fight between themselves (hormones!).

BUT just because the woman has said she wouldn't 'stand' for her dogs does not mean she would not mate with Fritz. It is possible that is why she wants rid of her - she can not have puppies to sell from her.

If you do get her I would advise you to get her spayed as soon as possible. I mean in the next couple of weeks. Don't take any chances of her getting pregnant to Fritz.

As the bitch is only 17 months old she should not even be attempting to breed from her yet so I doubt that is the reason she is getting rid of her. I do agree that one or other should be neutered before she comes home although if her last season was in March she would not be due in again for a couple of months at least.
