Poorly Sam
Poor Sam is sooo poorly, I have had problems with his appetite and watery poop since he came home, but I thought this was probably stress and his diet.
On Saturday he refused to eat anything and from dinner time he stopped drinking, in the afternoon he vomitted (just mucous)he became really listless and he felt very hot, so at 7 we took him to the vets. The vet thinks he has some sort of bacterial infection she gave him a thorough check and there is nothing obvious, so he was given 3 injections anti-biotics, anti-inflamatory and an anti-sickness drug. His temp was 104. He perked up a bit Saturday evening and was a bit brighter yesterday, the vet saw him quickly yesterday and said she was much happier with him. But he still hasn't eaten anything the only way to get him to take his anti-biotic tablets is to put them in peanut butter and wipe it on his tongue.
So today he still won't eat, he seems so weak and can barely walk he did poo this morning just milky looking mucous and blood he has another appointment with vet at 12 but I feel so helpless. Part of me says that he'll be fine but I'm so worried. The vet does not seem too worried, so I hope I am blowing everything out of proportion. He has lost 600g in 2 days and now weighs 5.4kg he was 9 weeks old last Friday.
Does anyone have any clue what might be wrong with him?? or have any experience with a pup who simply won't eat??
I did contact the breeder who told me to give him Kaoline and morphine?? and suggested food to feed him (branflakes/weetabix/rice/chicken), but the vet said not to give him anything to firm his poo up as this might encourage the infection to remain in his body, but as he won't eat at all I'm at a loss.
Fingers crossed that I'm just being an over anxious mum! Sorry for the long post just needed to get if off my chest a bit!
Sally

When are you due at the vet again?
It is not silly to be worried when such a tiny baby is poorly.
It is a good thing to give the digestive system a rest for a while so starving himself has probably helped that, but you cannot let it go on too long.
The most important thing is drinking, you have less to worry about if he is taking in fluid.
Personally I would phone the vet again today or take him back down there today just to put your mind at rest.
Hope he is back ankle biting again soon x.

You must be worried sick! On the upside, this hot weather could be making him more lethargic than usual and affecting his appetite even more. The fact that he is not drinking is more of a concern as is the mucous poo with blood. My first suspicion would be a foreign body, could he have eaten/swallowed anything that you are not aware of? My friend's pooch had numerous trips to the vet after stealing and swallowing socks and thongs. He had similar symptoms: not eating/drinking and unable to deficate. Of course, it could be a whole manner of things that's causing Sam problems. The main factor is that your and your vet are onto it. Good luck and I wish Sam a speedy recovery x

Poor sam, so sorry to hear he's under the weather and like the others have said it's not silly to be worried he's a baby still, although it doesn't matter how old they get they still worry you...lol
I hope you get some answers at the vets....xxx

Well.... they have kept him in they are going to put him on a drip to try to keep his fluids up, drugs to combat the diarrhoea and sedate him so that they can do a really thorough investigation.
The vets suspect that he has an intussusception (sp?), not entirely sure what that is so I'm going to google it in a min (when I pluck up courage) and they'll give me a ring about 4 ish.. so just sit and wait I guess.
Feel a bit numb now, it's going to be a long afternoon!

Awwww poor baby , make sure he is drinking this the most important part I believe! Chicken and rice is all I would offer at the moment maybe even just the chicken as he may nibble a bit. Really hope your baby gets better and don't hesitate to go back to the vet . Big hugs to ya! Get well soon!

Intusussception is when part of the small bowel telescopes inside - it is quite common in all young mammals, including human babies. Sometimes it corrects itself but frequently surgery is necessary to remove the telescoped bit of bowel which becomes damaged.
It sounds as if your vets are pretty on the ball - good luck.
