Classes for Jess??
Hi Everybody
Now that Jess is a little more settled and is behaving around my other dogs, i think it may be time to consider some socialisation classes for her.
I certainly think she would benefit from this as she has a terrible attitude towards other dogs and vets visits are a real problem.
My question is this.......do you think i could find a class that would even consider a VERY noisy dog who would undoubtably disrupt a class with her constant noise or do you think i would need to pay out for a trainer to visit my home instead. I rather want to take her somewhere where there will be no distractions which would ideally be away from my other 3 gsd but i fear it may prove too much for most behaviour classes to have her yapping the whole time.
As always,i welcome your feedback
Thanks
Sarah x

I think that if you were to first find the class, and then before you take Jess, you pop along, introduce yourself, and explain the problems to the trainers.
First of all that will give you more confidence knowing that they are expecting a noisy dog,..and the trainer may prepare the rest of the class,... but I dont think a good class would refuse you entery because of barking,... that could, and will be worked out

i would say a class should be ok to welcome you, we have a few that if allowed will kick off but we all manage and work together so they dont, If u can find one that maybe will let u keep coming in and out untill she is quiet? might work?

Thanks Stuart,Thats a sensible approach,im just very nervous of taking her anywhere like she is,she has a way of making you look like a complete idiot when she plays up as she will not listen when she gets in the yapping mindset. That said, she is a little angel with my dogs now, very quiet as long as there are no toys around to fire her up!!.

Like stuart said, if it's a good class they won't stop you because of barking.... I had Bonnie at a class a while back (left for other reasons) but when I said she was a barker they said don't worry about it, its their job to help with that!!
I hope you find one, keep us posted

When you find a training school you would like to go.
I would phone and explain your position.
Our trainer would ask to see your dog (no charge) then they should tell you to go a certain time/ night.
You will be fine at a good school, and welcome.
Most people are there because they need help, you are NOT alone.
Good luck.

We have a dog in Mishka's class and when he first joined he barked for the whole lesson, then week by week he slowly calmed down. Now he has a quick woof when he arrives and that's it. No one minded at all, we are all in class for the help to achieve a well balanced and well behaved dog, some just have a few issues to sort out first. Mishka well she's a lunger just randomly lunging at other dogs but we work on it. Good Luck.

I think classes would be a great idea, you'll just need to be honest about how vocal she is and I'm sure there will be a trainer that could help you....xx

All I can add is that when I took Sami to Max's training class one week she barked continually and ignored all reason even from the specialist gsd trainer who said "I'll sort HER out". I did try to explain that it was because none of the other people or dogs would do as Sami was telling them, not that Sami was naughty.
I was still asken NOT to take Sami back!!!
